I'm not able to get the Unique to meter worth a darn in my Dillon progressive press.
Anybody else have this problem?
Suggested solutions?
Thanks!

About the only powder I use in my Dillon 550B is Unique, but I can't say I had to do anything to get it to meter. Mine seems to work fine. Having said that, I don't weigh charges much since most are for middle of the road .45 Colt, .45 ACP and .38 Special rounds. I have found that a little dry graphite works wonders in the past though.

Mine vary 3/10 grain. How bad you talking?

About 3/10. More than I like.
I ordered some X-small powder bars so maybe it will help.

Is this a new measure? I have trouble with Unique in any powder measure until it gets a good coating of graphite through the whole works.
I use Power Pistol as a replacement for Unique nowadays. Meters just like Bullseye.

Me too. My measure is one of the older ones with the black coated charge bars. I may vary about 1/10 gr or so, but that's not really significant to me.

Unique can be a challenge in any powder measure, especially with small charges (3.5-5.0 grs) It can sometimes bind up a bit. After I fill my powder measure I tap on the sides of the measure several times with 2 fingers to get it settled, then I throw several charges to gets things even. This is one powder where I check every 10 rounds or so just to make sure. I normally only have about 1/10th plus or minus variation. Its still one of my most used powders after 45 years, in fact I just bought another pound last week at Cabelas in Boise, had a nice chat with Elmer while I was there!

Yeah, I know..me too.....It's just that it's a Rifle Loony hangover sort of thing with the powder.

Well, I have at least 4 tight neck rifles and a bunch of wildcats and I shoot Unique all the time. My advice? Get over it! Go shoot. Have fun. Don't sweat the small stuff!!! :-)

.
Use a lot of Unique in several Dillon 550, 650, and 1050 machines.
Weigh the first twenty powder charges thrown after resetting the Dillon powder measure.
90% of the charges will be within plus or minus 0.1 grain.
99% will be within 0.2 grain.

I'm not able to get the Unique to meter worth a darn in my Dillon progressive press. Anybody else have this problem? Suggested solutions? Thanks! There is a thread on the 1911 forum about polishing the bottom of the Dillon's chamber to increase consistency, but I've never had an issue with mine. I use Unique all the time and it throws under .1 grain every time. Mine was purchased back in 1992(?), so no idea if they're now made or finished differently.
