grantcunningham.com/blog_files/c5f2ab48855cf4d62d3f8c67333d27b7-412.htmlThe other question that comes to mind is reduced velocity. Seems that it would increase the "case capacity" before the bullet hits the throat. Seems to me that it has to reduce pressure thus velocity. Also, by the time the bullet hits the rifling and pressure builds, the base may be past the barrel cylinder gap. This would only help to reduce velocity further. But it would help misalignment and thread constriction, and either would be a bigger problem than the reduced velocity and pressure. Any thoughts as one day I would like to get a Reeder and might want to opt out on the Maxi Throat he offers?

I'll believe Jim Taylor and Gary on this (among others) This fella gets his opinion too, but I don't believe everything I read on the Internet either...I've also never seen one of this guys guns anywhere, that says a lot to me.

Taylor throating appears to sound a lot like Weatherby and his freebore idea. Ever looked at Weatherby velocities?

I have a worked over 44 from Jim Stroh to include Taylor throating. It is extremely accurate, but I couldn't say how much of that is due to the TT as I had a lot of work done to it. I do know that Mr. Stroh is a firm believer in the procedure and I've talked with him at length about it. A link from his website: www.alphaprecisioninc.com/revolver/default.htm

I am pleased with the two guns I have that are TT'd, a Stroh S&W and a Crow Ruger Bisley and another S&W is in works as well. I really do not see or have observed a downside. I believe it is a good easy "fix" for non-line bored guns.

Tek, I'm not sure I would complain about the loss of 50fps if my sixgun went from 3" at 25 yards to 1.5" because the accuracy gain would be well worth any downside!

I assumed(a no-no I know) that the velocity loss would be much greater than 50 fps, especially with slow powders. I wonder what powders were used by Stroh in his testing. I could see a faster powder losing less velocity.
Also, in the original link I posted, he said that if the Taylor throat is larger than the cylinder throats you would get cutting on the bullet which I could see happening. If this is the case, how could it help alignment any more that say an 11 degree forcing cone? The original misalignment would still cause the bullet to distort hitting the Taylor throat if the deminsions were kept the same in relation to the cylinder throats.
It would remove the thread choke which is what you were after.

The powders Stroh used is likely dependant upon the caliber and intent of the firearm and meaningless in what he is trying to achieve, which is accuracy. I know he builds a lot of Distinguished Marksmanship revolvers and sets them up as so. In fact, the build he did for me is so built. The bullet and Taylor throat should be slightly over groove diameter and the cylinder throat slightly over bullet diameter, a half thou each or so, with a gentle leade of the throat to the lands just as a rifle chamber. A funnel that works to center the bullet before engaging the rifling, that's all. Again, just as a rifle is built. Simple.

I have shot a lot of lead thru my 30 Blackhawk over the last ten years. For reasons not to get in to I had Reeder turn into a 327 mag. I told him I wanted it to be a accurate as could be. He recrowned the barrel, taylor throted it I could not ask for a more accurate gun. Best is 1 1/2" at 50 yards with His site comversion. The 30 used to lead some, but not after Gary Reeder finished with it.

Gary's guns are very accurate, the two I have from him are two of the most accurate revolvers I own, both are Taylor or "Maxi" throated...
