I found a blued one with the 4 5/8" barrel and it was love at first fondle. When I got it home I was surprised to find no lock when I removed the grip panels. Is that normal? I thought all the newer Blackhawks had the lock. Anyways, I tried it in my Galco SAO holster for my Bisley 45 Colt and it's a pretty good fit but I think I'd like to have a holster that was made especially for the smaller frame of the Flattop. Who else has the smaller frame sixgun and what holster are you using that you're happy with? Will a holster for a Colt SSA work for the Flattop? Thanks.

The Bisleys do not have the trigger locks. Yes that is normal. The sights will prevent your gun from fitting in a lot of holsters made for SAA's. I have one from El Paso Saddlery that fits very well, and the Bianchi #1L fits it well too. If you order one from El Paso specify it is for Bisley. The strap really needs to be a little longer (if you go with the strap and snap). The Bianchi took some stretching to make it work.

Durn you Sir! I was just about to bite on a BFR in the .44 mag format until I saw your post. I just got an old model Vaquero .44 a couple of weeks ago which is now at the 'smith around the corner for some "spa" treatment....so I have a magnum already. I had a Lipsey's .44 Special when they first came out, and had a moment of weakness and sold it. Now.....I wouldn't have sold the last one if it had been the 4 5/8" so, the itch is back and I have 100 brand new Hornady Special cases and I just got through tracking down a couple, so what else can a man do? Thanks for reminding me....

I love the 44 special Bisley FT from Ruger. All mine needs now is a decent trigger job/action tune.
Does anybody do this as good as Alan Harton? He did my Montado suhweeeet.

jlk45 ..... an option to consider would be to purchase Jim Stroh's beautiful front sight kit with interchangeable ramp blades. I have them on a few of my Ruger SA's and I do believe his design will lessen the damage to your holster. Check out his web site at: alphaprecisioninc.com and on the home page, scroll down and click on Front Sight Kit for detailed info & photos.
dougader ..... I also highly recommend Jim Stroh (see above) as an outstanding and very detailed sixgun smith to do a trigger/action and accuracy tune on your Ruger Bisley Flat-top .44 spl. He's doing a custom upgrade as mentioned above, including his Taylor Throating (for improved accuracy) on an identically configured Ruger Biz FT for me right now. I feel that Jim is definitely one of the very best in the industry, bar none.
