I sent a donor gun to Jack Huntington for a 475L/480 5-shot conversion in late Feb. We did not have a chance to discuss grip material previously, so I gave him a ring this afternoon to discuss. We decided on some fancy figured walnut that I can't pronounce, but he thinks it will be an nice complement to the project. I am happy to take his word on it. BTW, the end result will be a SS Bisley, 6" octagon, 5-shot 475L, with all the usual goodies... I had no preconception that he had even begun work on my project. To my surprise he already has a cylinder and barrel blank dedicated to it! He is on track (barring any unforeseen issues) to complete the project in the 6 months originally stated. I am ecstatic to say the least. My last major project took over 2 years to complete. Just thought I'd share my excitement...

Nice! That sounds like a really nice custom, the 6" barrel is my favorite barrel lenght and nothing says Old German craftsmanship like an Octagon barrel. I look forward to seeing pictures!

Axe, I already have a couple of molds for my other 475 and I've had a leather order with Barranti for over 6 months that should work with this one. I'm sure I'll be able to think of some "accessories" for it though.

I just talked to Jack and he's just about finished with my 475. It's being marked by the engraver and he's wrapping up the grips - after that it'll be on the way to GA.
Oh, happy day!

That's it! I'm not smart enough to know how to pronounce that. ;D I believe it's pronounced "Sir-cash-in" or "sir-cash-un", as in "If you want these grips, sir, cash in your gold and send the $$ my way!" (Not to pick nits, but I think there was an "s" missing in there, elsewise it would be "Circ-Asian")

Either way it's the same tree as English, French or Turkish walnut. Or any of a dozen other names.
