Another good accurate fun plinkin load has been 255gr SWC and the RCBS 270gr SAA boolit under 13.0gr HS-6. My 5 1/2" Bisley convertible really likes this load, easy on recoil too. Imagine how well it would shoot with the boolit OVER the powder! :-P

Another thing I noticed. They kept all the starting loads AT or below 25,000 CUP. if you had, lets say a S&W model 25, that would also be good info to have. I would think a RNV would probably be OK at the 25,000CUP level as well. YMMV, IMHO, be careful, etc.

I'll get this handloadin stuff down some day....

Yes, this is in the silhouette section. YES MAKE SURE YOU COMPARE NOTES AND CONSIDER NOSE LENGTH + WORK UP! Without even a COAL listed, you are left in the dark about true case capacity.

Right after the first .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawks were introduced, I was at the NRA Convention. I belleve that particular convention was held at Washington D.C. Bruce Hodgdon was there and recognized me from the American Trapshooting Ass'n Grand American. The Grand was held, for many years, at Vandalia, Ohio, just north of me. We had previously had many interesting discussions. Bruce was a true enthusiast. He was really fired up with the Ruger .45 Colt. He told me about his "discoveries" with the pressure gun and suggested I would do well to get a Ruger .45 Colt. It only took me about fifty years to do so (:>()...
At any rate I got the whole story and I can still remember his enthusiasm. This was WAY-Y-Y before any of this made it to print.
Bruce was a true friend to the Brotherhood, I can tell you that. E.H. Harrison of the NRA Cast Bullet fame, was at Bruce's every weekend for two years running pressure tests on cast bullets to develop the core information we all enjoy today. Bruce eventually put all of that information in the Hodgdon reloading manual. "E.H." and Bruce were good friends and that friendship was responsible for all of that "Good Dope" that we enjoy...

It was after reading John Linebaugh's articles on the .45 Colt a dozen or more years ago that I bought my first Ruger - a Bisley in.... .45 Colt! After reading his notes on the comprehensive heavy load data in the Hodgdon #26, I decided to find myself one. Much searching on all the usual sites (Slamazon, etc) netted nothing but I learned the #27 was the current manual, so decided to give Hodgdon a call to see if they still had some #26s for sale. When the nice lady answered the phone I posed my question and immediately she replied "You must be one of those Ruger .45 Colt guys!?" I was thinking "Wow, they employ psychics at Hodgdon!" After confirming her suspicions, she said they'd been out of 26's for > 2 years but still got 2-3 people calling per week asking for one and almost every one of them was looking for this data. I had a good laugh despite feeling like a heel. I finally found one on Fleabay for a decent price, complete with aroma de cigar smoke! Thanks very much for posting this valuable info, though!

As soon as I saw this post I thought "yeah I've got one of those". So I ran to the reloading room, looked under the bench in my pile of old manuals and there it was.......... #24, rats! Oh well, thanks for the post, I saved the pics to my reloading folder.
