Curious where I can find brass for a 500 Max? Is it still made from 348?? Thanks

Hornady made a run of brass for Cast Performance, but as far as I know it's long gone. Reeder has probably built more 500 Max's than anyone else -- a post on his board might find someone willing to part with a little of the Hornady stuff. Not sure what it would take to get another run made.
I had terrible luck with cut down 50 AK brass, but am apparently in a small minority. The first batch I bought had so much variation in rim thickness, that many cases wouldn't fit the gun. The next batch had more uniform rims, but had some primer pockets that were so deep the firing pin barely reached the primers. And, despite the fact you would expect it to have the thickest necks, I had more bullets jump crimp in that brass than in either the Hornady or the re-worked Winchester 348 brass.
The only other brass I used was from Jamison. He sent me a handful of his original test run to abuse and report back. I shot them until they failed -- split necks after 14 or 15 full-power loads with a heavy crimp. Ordered 500 cases, and never saw them. I don't know if he ever made a production run or not. I believe he's out of business now.

purchase and cut down 50 alaskan brass Yep. I have both cut down .50 AK brass and about 100 pieces of Hornady .500 Max brass that I bought used.

Another question for the experts. Has anyone used a BFR to make a Linebaugh long or are all of this caliber done on the Ruger Maximum frames? Thanks

They are normally done on Ruger Maximum frames.

I made mine by lathe turning Alaskans to 1.62". Case trimming to 1.60" is the last step....no inside reaming needed. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Maybe they will do another run. Not a lot of demand though so I assume it would be low quantity. Is Starline the manufacturer? -Lee www.singleactions.com

Is Starline the manufacturer? -Lee www.singleactions.comI ordered 6 boxes of 50 3 or 4 years ago from them, brass is marked "Hornady 500 maximum". I saved one box of 50 unused for a rainy day and the others reloaded until necks started to split and have been cut down to 1.4"
