If anyone is interested, there is a new listing for a blued Abilene .357 magnum on AuctionArms.com. Needs work, no reserve auction. It appears to be an early Riverhead gun, with push pin base pin release. I am still looking for a .44 mag Abilene or Seville.

agrizz, Familiar with these guns. The one on GA has been modified etc, plus too much money. The two on GB just came back on and are reserve auctions and the seller turned down over 500 each on them recently. I think he may want a little too much for them, nice though they are.

BTW, these aren't stainless....they're Metalloy hard-chrome. US Arms never offered a SS Abilene. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I believe these guns are both "magnaloy" finishes which is hardchrome. Nice looking guns but overpriced apparently since they did not sell for $500 ?

Actually, I have a hard time understanding Abilene pricing. I bought a Riverhead 44 in "as new" condition for about $200 less than a new Super Blackhawk. It was implied I might have paid a little too much. It just has super fit and finish with great accuracy as well. I cannot conceive of ever wanting to trade even for the SB, let alone having to bump the deal with cash on my end. So what am I missing?

edk, You have not missed a thing. I agree with you. I'd not trade either of my Riverhead Abilenes for a Ruger SBH. Pricing is dependent upon the folks in the deal...around here, I'd think many are "educated" as to the true value of the Abilene. Makes a difference when the deal gets priced.

Super Blackhawk is starting to look better all the time, much more available and reasonably priced. Got a stack of .44 mag ammo that needs shootin'!

In looking at a number of pictures lately of Abilenes and some Sevilles, I notice what looks like the loading gate having jumped forward probably under recoil and leaving an unsightly gap at the joint and in some cases nearly touching the cylinder. Is this a common malady of these guns and what causes it? Comments?

nolongcolt, I have a Seville that has this same problem. It doesn't seem to affect operation of the gun, but it is unsightly as you say.
