Ya, it looks correct. Mossberg only cataloged 6" 45 Colts, but I suspect some other lengths were shipped. -Lee www.singleactions.com

This one ain't one of the A.I.G. Inc. guns. Did Mossberg have an affiliation with the guns from Riverhead, NY (U.S. ARMS CORP.)?

I should've looked closer at the frame inscription. This one is definitely pre-Mossberg and would've been built under the Harvey Kahn interest. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Jim "Catfish" Hunter was a Major League baseball player from eastern NC. Don't know if that is what is on the case, but would be interesting if it was. It actually does say Jim Catfish Hunter. Looks like that's exactly what's on the case. I read it wrong. Take a look. Not sure why there's a gun case with his name on it though.

Clean looking Abilene. Can you measure the barrel for me? Looks at tad bit longer than 6" (most of the Mossberg 45 Abilenes were shipped with 6.0" tubes). -Lee www.singleactions.comGood afternoon Lee, I just measured the barrel. It's a 6". I'm assuming it's made in the early to mid 80's?

Lee,
Do you have any idea as to how many .45 Abilene's identical to mine were made? I'm curious to know? It's a shame they're not in business any longer.

200 - 300 Mossberg assembled Abilenes exist. My research and serial number tracking puts them between 1980 and 1982 (and all had 6" barrels). -Lee www.singleactions.com

I've seen a reference to a Catfish Hunter pistol case on eBay before. Maybe there was a line of them made in the 1970s?

His name was used to brand certain sporting goods at one time.
