Can you post the frame inscription? 45 Colt was the least common Abilene caliber. From 1980 to around 1983 Mossberg assembled 200 - 300. I was lucky enough to find one years ago with factory stag: Does yours look similar to this? -Lee www.singleactions.com

Hi Guys, I'm new here and dont want to hijack the thread but this may be the best place to say that I am looking for an Abilene or Seville in .44 mag. Blue is preferred, 7.5 bbl. Been a single action nut for years and owned several Super Blackhawks but this time I want something a little different. After reading Lee Martin's article about them I got really interested. See a few here and there on the net but would like more options. Thanks!

Hey Lee, My .45 Colt Abilene says: 45 Colt US ARMS DIVISION-AIG INC and looks to be a twin to yours but with walnut grips. But, the serial # is A005381 No prefix or dash. What's up with that?

Yours is a Mossberg 45 which means it's one of 200 - 300. As for the dash, some Abilenes had it while others didn't. Looks like you got a clean one. Enjoy shooting it....they're really nice single-actions. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Super Nice!
A great find. I have been looking for one myself in 45 Colt. Can you say what a find like that cost you? If not, no problem, it's understandable.
BTW, what kind of grips are on yours?

The few 45 Abilenes I've seen sell of late bring $600+. The two I purchased years ago were really pretty cheap. But back then no one seemed to know much about them (ie, Ruger knock-offs). -Lee www.singleactions.com

Jim "Catfish" Hunter was a Major League baseball player from eastern NC. Don't know if that is what is on the case, but would be interesting if it was.

Clean looking Abilene. Can you measure the barrel for me? Looks at tad bit longer than 6" (most of the Mossberg 45 Abilenes were shipped with 6.0" tubes). -Lee www.singleactions.com

Can't say for sure, Lee. But, I see no evidence of it having been cut. The crown looks identical to that on one of my 44's, the bluing seems correct, and the sight appears the same.
