They're great guns indeed. You keeping the stock panels or will you upgrade the grips? -Lee www.singleactions.co

A quick question. if i was to do my own springs and power customs trigger/bisley hammer what would be the difference quality/price compared to a job my Bownen,Clemets etc. Ive always wanted to work on a gun my self.

Price will be much less. I have the power custom stuff in my Accu-Sport and I like it. If you just want a trigger job and don't care about the half cock, you can get there w/o the PC parts if you know what to file and stone. Just get the trigger return spring. You will spend about half the cost of the parts just shipping it to a 'smith and back. Try to detail strip it and put it back together first. If you can do that, you're there. While you have it apart, you can take out the detent ball and spring for the cylinder and make it free spin if you want.

Do you know of any book to help walk me threw this. Dont think i want to free spin this one. I like the clicking. THE book that you are looking for is The Ruger Single Action Revolvers: A Shop Manual Volumes 1 & 2 ... by Jerry Kuhnhausen. I have all of Kuhnhausen's books and they are positively indispensable for a thorough nuts-and-bolts understanding of your Ruger (or any other firearm for which he's written a book). For some, the books may be a bit too technical - their primary audience is the professional gunsmith. That said, it's oneof the best $$ investments you can make in your revolver. And one book will cover virtually ALL your Ruger SA's. Kuhnhausen also writes one for Ruger DA's also, plus S&Ws, Colt SAs and DA, two for the 1911, Mauser bolt actions, Remington 870s, .30 Cal US Service Rifles and more! www.midwayusa.com/product/615772/the-ruger-single-action-revolvers-a-shop-manual-volumes-1-and-2-book-by-jerry-kuhnhausen

An older (and maybe the current?) Ruger owners manual will give you an exploded drawing and basics on how to get it apart and back together. The hardest part for me is trapping the loading gate detent spring while you put the gripframe back on.
If you are the kind of guy who grew up taking stuff apart and (mostly) putting it back together you'll do ok, book or not. The Ruger SAs are very simple. The only other hard part is if you need to remove the hammer strut spring and don't have a vice, a fork, or extra hands. Fortuneately you can just cock the hammer and use an allen wrench or other small pin-type device to trap it for removal... Unless the new safety lock setup prevents that?

BROWNELLS has a clamp-type tool for the gate detent spring that is worthwhile. You can also "cheat" by not pushing the trigger pin all the way out..it also holds the bolt/cylinder stop in place so it is less trouble to re-assemble. (I always caution people to send the wife and kids out for a few hours while first attempting to do a trigger and hammer swap, etc. Little people don't need to learn bad words!)
BROWNELLS also has a tool for changing out main springs that is a bit pricey, but worthwhile if you do this regularly. It could be priceless if it saves your eye! Changing out the spring is almost as big a PITA as the trigger and hammer and can require the same level of profanity and exasperation.
The "poor boy trigger job"will get you by, but a new set of springs and/or a trip to the gunsmith is a lot better. I'll get a trigger job done real quick on "keepers" and then better grips IF I haven't switched them off something else. (Currently, EAGLE GRIPS don't show my preferred smooth water buffalo horn grips for DRAGOONS or BISLEYS....and I need several sets of both.) I have a set of guns awaiting a summons to visit Jim Stroh at ALPHA PRECISION...six month wait to get work done.
PS JACK DANIELS TENNESSEE HONEY is almost as good as WILD TURKEY LIQUEUR aka AMERICAN HONEY or IRISH MIST after a long day.
