Just purchased a Ruger Maximum and want something special. Leaning towards making it a 445. Pictures and details on your longframes may help me decide. Thanks in advance guys. I know there is no shortage of photos here!

I was thinking about 414 but didn't the brass run out? That's some custom though. Really like the Freedom sight.

Here is a 5 shot, long cylinder 414 Supermag that I really enjoy. Alan did the conversion and the topstrap rebuild so a Freedom Arms sight and more importantly, Lovell scope mount, fits. Harton??

Yes sir, Alan Harton. When I approached him about the job he was kind of excited to try something like the topstrap work. He had a local shop anodize the Lovell mount black and it really looks and works nice.

Makes a nice 357 Max as is. Two Dawgs had this one tweaked by Alan Harton to include locking basepin, internal trigger stop, pinned patridge front sight, Bowen target rear. He claims that it shoots pretty good...

I'd bet that the easiest would be a 445. John Gallagher did this one. The Bisley conversion was simply icing on the cake!

500 Maximum would be my first choice. But if you only do one long conversion, the 445 or 500 Max aren't high volume guns (recoil is pretty stiff). For plenty of power and still pleasant to shoot I prefer the 375 and 414 SuperMag. Brass is scarce, but 375 can easily be formed off 30-30 or 375 Win (Redding stills makes the reloading and form dies). Starline made 414 hulls but they've since dried up. Though these aren't Ruger Maxs, my favorite stretch-frames are in 375 & 414: Factory 375 Home-converted 414 Good luck and let us know what you decide on. And don't forget pictures. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Here you go Whit. I haven't photographed it since it's come back from hard-chroming (though I have added a Belt Mountain pin and new grips): Just waiting on the Bowen target rear. -Lee www.singleactions.com
