At Books a Million for some Christmas shopping. The Wife told me to pick out a gun book for Christmas. Like a good husband I went with her to look. My eyes ran accross the shelf and there it was. "Ed McGivern's Book of Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting" Softback but less than $20! Just looked at it on Amazon for less than $12.. Hardback reprints out there for less than $20.

I have it. It's one of the only gun books I own that my wife attempted to read.
One of my favorite parts o that book has to be the rows of washers with the stamps on them where he was adjusting the sights to hit in the center of the washer. He was throwing the washers up and shooting them out of the air.

Pissstel Shootin Fer IdgitsAKA.. You are going to do what? with that? FWIW.. Buy these things when they are in print and cheap. Skeeter and JT's books are the recent glaring example of why. The digital things are kewl but there is something special for a lot of us old guys about a book..

I have an autographed first edition copy, but I keep hoping to see modern translation. Ed was a heck of a shooter but that is one hard to read book!

I agree: I've had a copy for 20+ years, and it's just poorly written.

Hw was not a great writer, but the info is there. It should be a must read for all handgunners. The worst for me is the poor photos, I guess state of the art for the time.

Yup - I got his book early on in an effort to improve my shooting skills and basically all he said throughout the book was practice and then practice some more, so I got a starr reloader and shot a couple tons of lead and still couldn't hit a cow in the arse at 10 feet. He was truly one of the best.
