I'm thinking of getting a double barreled coach gun. I have a choice of the exact same gun in double trigger or single trigger. Is one more preferred over the other? Does the single trigger fire both barrels at once?

The choice between single or double is yours. If you ever want to shoot Cowboy Action I believe it will need to have double triggers. Single trigger guns are recoil actuated, meaning that the recoil of the gun going off resets the triggers and the next pull will fire the second barrel. Most of the stories I have heard of both barrels going off at once with any double barrel can be traced directly back to wear and poor maintenance. I have had both and prefer a single trigger. As a side note, you CAN make both barrels on a double trigger go off at the same time by using two fingers on the triggers,ALSO if the loads are heavy enough and if in a hurry you use two much finger second pad of finger will fire first barrel space between pads will let trigger reset and finger tip will fire second barrel, you may have a semi concussion/bloody fingers and swear both barrels went off at once...BTW i only have one hunting load,a full charge of Blue Dot behind 1 1/2 ounces of shot.

I prefer double triggers. Are you thinking hammerless?

Yes hammerless. Looking at the Stoegers and I'm leaning towards the double trigger.

I have had 3 Stoegers 2 SXS and 1 O/U. Never had a problem with any of them.

I shot a Stoeger once and it was a nice shotgun. Price certainly is right for those models.

One word of caution on shotguns and I guess doubles especially. BEFORE you buy it you need to throw it up/shoulder it at an object and the close your OFF dominate eye and see if the sights are lined up. Shotguns are really touchy in drop. If it doesnt line up try another brand/model untill it works or be prepared to do some work on the comb. This depends on facial features and body build so everyone is different.

I know you said hammerless, but maybe I can change your mind. ;D This is my EMF Hartford I got a few years ago. Pics don't do the wood or the CCH justice: I would have preferred one without a safety button, but this one is pretty unobtrusive, blends in well and works easily. You might see by the tag still on it, these pics are before I ever shot it. I DID however mount it and it fit me better than several others I tried. Dmize is 100% right... check fit before buying.

Fit is VERY important on any shotgun. I forgot that when I bought one of the TTN 1878 clones that were everywhere a few years ago. Those guns were a little TOO authentic, right down to the stock dimensions that had way, way too much drop and the comb.
