I think Carl is correct - looks like a long frame to me.

I think the educated eyes of the boys on the Ruger Forum would have caught a long frame long before now. Outside of the actual measurement another tell is a two character alpha designation on the underside of the grip panels that are unique to the long frame SBH. I don't remember what it is and my books are not with me..

Actually, I consulted Matt on this one. I thought it might have been a long-frame as well, in which case I would have bought it myself even though it's not in very good condition. Matt agreed that it isn't a long-frame, but did concur with me that the asking price, with the case, is about right.

I think I need to go back to school... or more accurately, I think I've been schooled.

Personally, when the cutting was done if I was standing on the same side of the room as Carl I'd not feel "schooled" myself... I'd take it as a good indicator that it is a very hard call to make with no more than pictures..

I guess when you put it that way I'm a little less "less adequate". Carl has forgotten more about SA's then I'll probably ever learn.

A "C" on the grip panel will also indicate if it's a long frame.

The difference between the two frames is slight enough that a difference in photo angle can make it impossible to distinguish.

One can, with care, take a pair of "dividers" and make some comparisons between the two images. For instance, first obtain the distance from the upper corner to the lower end of the butt and compare that with the distance from the upper corner of the grip to the center of the grip screw and the distance from the center of the grip screw to the lower end of the butt. Generating the "ratios" will ascertain the answer. The long frame dimensions are obviously a larger number.
JMHO,
Carl
