Just returned from eastern Montana and was successful getting my first elk. I had a cow tag and decided to use a Freedom Arms 500 WY Express loaded with the LBT WFN 435-GC over 14.5 of Longshot. Velocity over the chrono was running 1140 fps. I had a self imposed limit of 100 yards and managed to get a shot at 88 yards. First shot hit her behind the shoulder and she walked off about 40 yards and fell over. My friend was above and behind me and thought I missed as he saw the bullet hit the dirt behind her. We recovered the bullet from the dirt behind the elk and other than the rifling it looked like new. I shot from the draw on the right side of the photo and the elk was near the closest pine tree on the left side of the photo.

Placement & penetration, thats the key with the big bores, hyper velocity isn't needed to work their magic. Great job!

Cor, the only problem with a nap was the temperature was about 9 degrees with a 10-15 mph wind. I was out there 10 days and the temperature ranged from a high of 63 to a low of 13 below. One morning it was 44 degrees in Lewistown and we drove about 30 miles up to the Missouri River where it was 10 degrees.

Good point! Those temp variations can be tricky for gear, too hot in afternoon too cold in morning, you scored and that's whats great...Nice shootin!
