Okay guys, I have taken several deer with handguns before but this year the only gun I carried was Zeus the Desert Eagle. I had opportunities yesterday with a group of does at about 80 yards, but they were figidty and never gave me a solid shot and I had a forkhorn spend an hour within 20 yards of my stand, see previous post on antler restrictions. But regardless of restrictions I was having serious reservations of sending a 335 grain HP into a deer at that distance. Should I take the stance of an Indian counting coup or be upset? BTW I have filled my deer tag/tags since 1983.

Is it about filling your tag? Or hunting with this handgun? Neither is wrong.

I don't see a problem with the bullet at 20 yards. I'm sure it was made to withstand the velocities you are launching them. On the other hand if you were concerned about meat damage, you might get a bit more with it.

A majority of the time it is the absolute excitement of just watching the animals and the adrenalin rush of planning a shot, not the killing. You know what you can do and it is very diffucult some times to just say to yourself there will be another day another time and put the gun down.
It would be different if we were trying to eat to live. We are not.

Heaven forbid you would kill him too dead. ;D I guess I do not follow your thinking but only you can decide when the shot is right for you and what you shoot a deer with. Honestly I have never heard of "too close"...maybe you should just take a camera if you are feeling this way.

I think it would have been ballistically close to my 45-70. Even if legal, never had a good angle that would not have involved a shoulder. My thinking on saying that was,if I would have had my 41 with a cast bullet,it would have been a bit more realistic of a shot.
