...Ray (short for Raider) was a GOOD dog, even if he was a bit goofy. Half lab / half chow, he was a bit large and clumsy for an inside dog, but as sweet as a dog can be, and a wonderful companion for almost 11 years - he would have been 11 on December 18th. He went out last night and didn't come back. I stayed up all night looking for him, ran up and down the road several times. At first light there he was, at the bottom of the hill, right at the foot of my driveway. Last night was a stormy one - I hope he wasn't scared (he was terrified of thunder & lightning), and I hope he didn't suffer. He was a GOOD dog, and I will miss him. I hope Dad got to pat Ray's head this morning. So long, little pal. (Ray being his goofy self, in happier times)

Sorry buddy, that's tough. Dogs are better than people anyday. My last Lab was 15 when I put her down and had her since I was 11 and put her down when I was 26. She travelled everywhere with me. The one I have now is a goofball but keeps me company, she is my family.
Rest assured, he's chasing squirrels and rabbits everyday now.

Boge,
So sorry to hear of the loss of Ray. We have four dogs here and I don't know what we would do without any of them. As my wife's father would have said, "I prefer the company of most dogs to that of most people". I am certain you and Ray know what I am talking about.

Sorry to hear about Ray, Boge. Losing dogs is a terrible experience. I know. I don't know if you have other dogs. If not as hard as it sounds it's good to try to get a new Dog as soon as possible. It really helps.

Sorry to learn of your buddy leaving Boge. Lost my last one in 96 and will do not have the appetite to replace him. He was a Brittany and my constant companion for 15 years.

Sorry Boge,
I know the advice to get back in the saddle sounds callous at first. When I lost my dog 4 years ago I thought I would not replace her. I was actually thinking that way because sadly I had partly contributed to her death - some warped thinking halfway in between not deserving of another and the idea she could not be replaced.
Within a couple of weeks my brother put me in touch with someone he knew that just had a litter. Long story short was that a few months later at only 6-months that pup helped me through a stretch where I almost died: almost no sleep on my part for several weeks while sitting all night in a chair. She slept partly on my feet while I gazed at the fire for hours on end. We bonded for life in those few weeks. So glad I got her.

Sorry to hear about this, Boge. A pet (canine, feline, or other) becomes a special part of the family after a while, that's just how it is...their unbiased, loving nature makes them so lovable & enjoyable. It's never easy to lose your little buddy, your pal. My last two little buddies have died in my arms. Each time as they passed, my tears flowed freely...sort of embarrassing I suppose, but I couldn't stop it...they each held such a special place in my heart & it was gut-wrenching to see them go.
