Hi Guys
I just traded for a Bisley vaquero in 45 long colt 4 5/8. the gun is in 98 % condition and its the blued case colored version. My question, why are these selling (completed auctions) in the $600-900 range on GB? I love the Bisley frame but those prices seem out of line. I have a oppurtunity to trade this gun for a browning model 53.
Now for the Grover. I was left a Grover #5 in 45 Long colt. This gun is a fully engraved with elephant ivory grips. It was my uncles pride and joy. I will cherish this gun along with my memories of him. I havent picked it up yet,but soon. I was suprised he had this built in 45 since he loved the 44 special. He had 3 colt 44 sp, a Hamilton Bowen 357 to 44 sp conversion, well maybe I answered that question. Anyways I doubt I will shoot the Grover enough to wear it out ,but are any parts avail if something breaks? I know he had to send it back or have something repaired not long after he bought it.
Thanks for letting me ramble. I will post pics when I pick the gun up

We need some pictures of that TLA #5! You are in a good place to talk it up. We have a member who is putting together a book who will want all the finer details. 45s are not common. Alan Harton works on a lot of the forum member's TLAs. David Clements and John Gallagher have worked on TLAs in the past..
Don't know about the prices of Vaquero Bisleys. They wern't that high the last time I looked... Those prices sound like the limited run 5.5 inch stainless Bisleys.

My current TLA #5 came from a forum member in Oregon. It had passed through Alan Harton's shop for some cosmetic enhancements that included ivory grips. While in the shop Alan assured the internals were the proper hardness.

I always check completed auctions to see the real (preceived) value of a gun. It seemed that the 4 5/8 were the main ones selling and in the 6-900 rangehttp://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=245226922 I am not sure if the link will work unless your signed into gunbroker. this is on the first page of completed aucions. Crazy!!!

Pulled up a full page of GunBroker Bisley Vaqueros. Current prices ranged from $340-$679... Didn't compare barrel length. caliber, or finish. Those high end guns must have been from a special run..

The "Old Model" Vaqueros, the large frame ones, are beginning to become scarce. I have not seen many, if any, for less than $500 and I look almost everyday.
The new small frame ones are plentiful and nice but I am plotting a Dustin Linebaugh 500L on a stainless Bisquero.
I ended up selling one of the old model ones, blued and mildly customized by Dustin Linebaugh to 2 Dogs last year and have been kicking myself in the butt ever since.

A number of years ago, I was shooting a LOT of BPCR Silhouette and many of those matches had side matches for black powder revolvers. They were pretty restrictive -black powder or substitute, only, and with fixed sights only. I had wanted to seriously try out a Bisley grip frame and here was an excuse to do so. I purchased the Bisley Vaquero in .45 Colt. I cast Lyman's Cowboy bullet (452664) lubed it with Emmert's Home Mix (bullet alloy was 25/1 lead/tin). I ran three different brands of black powder in two different granulations - Elephant, Goex, and Swiss in 2f and 3f. I was a bit surprised to learn how well this handgun shot with black (around 2" at 25 yards). I could shoot 70-75 rounds before the gun started tying up from fouling. A quick clean and it was ready for another 70 rounds. I won a number of matches with that revolver, both silhouette and NRA Bullseye). Enough winnings that the revolver has earned a permanent place in my inventory: Others have answered the price question. Dale53

I was refering to the larger frame, I should have stated that. 45 lc and the 4 5/8. Seems other calibers ans barrel lengths more resonably priced.

I watched them for a while and yes the old Bisley in 45 with the short bbl in stainless seems to be the highest thing going. I have not seen one go for 900 but at least 750. The 5 1/2" bbls are a lot less. I don't think that they are that rare just currently desirable.
