Outstanding. I wish I had the skill/experience to make grips like that. How long have you been doing it?

I have its 4 3/4 brother. Bought it earlier this year and am pleased with it as well. Your grips are quite nice! Good looking rig you got there.

Very nice those stocks are really nice, thanks for sharing. I really like the .44-40, if you reload, try Titegroup, & Trailboss, Unique is always good too. I've used the PMC .44-40s, & they shoot well for me. My box said they use a 225gr bullet. Good shooting. Frank

What species of wood are the stocks? Did you stain them or is the finish clear? The wood grain and figure are spectacular - especially the right side. Nice work!

That's a piece of feathered crotch black walnut - as often happens with crotch, one side is more figured than the other, but I can live with that as it gives a better illusion of having a true one-piece grip than if I'd just found another section of figured wood and mated it - the way I've got it the grain lines up right for a one-piece. And yes, I stained the dog turd out of it - it was a very light colored piece of wood. I used both Birchwood Casey walnut and Chestnut Ridge red on it to get the color I wanted. Thanks for the compliments, guys.

700X and 800X work well in the 44/40 also.

In all due fairness, I have to report that I'm sending the pistol back to Colt for servicing. I've noticed the timing is not perfect - if slow cocked, the cylinder sometimes won't lock into battery, and can be turned manually to then hear the bolt click into place. When cocked with any degree of force it's not an issue, but slow-cocked it is, so I want to have Colt get it perfect. Hopefully, it will be a good experience dealing with their warranty service.
