I found out one thing the round is good for, killing black bears! Sorry for posting this, but I thought the guys here might like to hear it. I killed a 300lb bear with my Horvath Bisley stainles 5 1/2" 45 colt. I was using a 300 grain old FA cast bullet and 22 grains of 296. I shot the bear at about 50yds, and it ran about 30 yds and started rowing down the hill. It had two holes through the lungs, and they were all but gone. I got so exceited I thought I was going to choke. I think this will be one gun that will not be sold! The old colt may not kill them on the spot, but they usually do not go far.

Only had 2 guns "dump them on the spot" a 300 Win Mag and a VERY heavily loaded 45-70. And last year had a young doe run 75 yards after a 300 gr 45-70 literally took her lungs out. Its all about full penetration/destruction and a blood trail, the old Colt will do both pretty easily.

The 45 Colt is an excellent cartridge...... I'll second that one! ;D Putting it mildly!!! why it has been around for over 140 years, and why no other cartridge has so much success. Most don't understand, the 45 Colt has a mystique that can't be understood till one uses it in a firearm capable of it's full potential. The 45 Colt was definitely born WAY BEFORE IT's TIME and I am sure the designers never knew what they truly had introduced. I have experimented heavily with this round for over 35 years and if I only had one gun, it would be a 45 Colt!! If Elmer knew what he had, he would have designed a gun instead!! You know, more power, heavier boolits, bigger hole, less pressure, I'm sorry, didn't mean to get started, You guy's are right, I love this round, hell I love this caliber!! Congrats!! Very nice!

I am a huge fan of the .45 Colt -- it is one of my favorites, bar none. Every animal is a law unto itself. Sometimes they die on th spot, other times they run off to pile up a few yards down the road, while sometimes they seemingly need to be be filled with lead before they concede defeat. That bear may have run off having been shot in the same place with a .458 Lott. You just never know. That said, the .45 Colt is a killin' machine loaded properly!
