We're building a 500 Maximum and recently heat-treated the cylinder. Thought some of you might like seeing how cherry-red it is when it comes out of the furnace: It's 1,600 degrees before it gets oil quenched. After the oil bath it's tempered at 500 degrees. The end result is Rockwell 41. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Nah, no heat-treating required on that (it's his little 500+ hp stroker small-block). -Lee www.singleactions.com

Will the metal shrink ,expand or remain the same size after the treating? Oh I like your workboots ;D The shoes aren't mine, they belong to dad We did this one out of 416 series and the oil is room temp. Shrinkage is minimal with this series of stainless. On average it's only 0.0001", which is immaterial. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Kinda funny but those are the exact same style of shoes my Grandpa wore. Matter of fact I noticed them before the glowing cylinder.

OHH CRAP. I looked at the picture more closely, THOSE ARE PENNY LOAFERS!!! I thought they were Wing Tips. But if it makes you feel better ANY reference I make to my Grandpa is a GOOD one. He was basically my Dad. And he taught me to respect age and wisdom. Oh and as an ironic side note my Great Grandpa was a Black Smith and Grandpa taught/was teaching me some of the trade

What the hell is happening to this forum? My dad's shoes sparks more interest than a 500 Max conversion? -Lee www.singleactions.com
