Well, after reading and seeing several of the single action conversions here on singleactions.com I've decided to have one of my Ruger Super Blackhawks converted to 500 Linebaugh. I've narrowed the gunsmith selection down to two. I eliminated Dave Clements and Hamilton Bowen because of costs and turn around times. I will retain the standard SBH steel grip frame because I do not like the feel of the Bisley. This will be a shooter, not a wall hanger. I've decided on a 7.5" barrel and a non glare blued finish. Any suggestions would be informative Thanks

Thanks Axehandle, I think I will be going with Huntington. I've seen his work. It will give me the excuse I've needed anyway. I want a 500 BFR converted to 50 Alaskan so I might as well send two guns at once

I don't want to insult you But IMHO it would be a big mistake to build a 500L with any grip frame other than a bisley. 500L recoil is brutal That SBH grip frame is gona hurt ya

No one knows there own hands better than your self. Whats best for you might be dangerous for someone else. I have tried Bisleys, hunters, Blackhawks, superblackhawks and others using flat bottomed grips, rounded gripframes angled bottoms. the best so far for the really hard kicking guns for me has been a modified hunter with a rounded gripframe, most find this rotates to far into there hand and can draw blood, for me it simply helps rotate my arm. Second is the factory model 83 Freedom Arms grip third would be the rounded bisley (got to watch out for that trigger guard smacking my middle finger on bisleys) , then the bisley with flat a bottom grip then the factory bisley. Last on my list would be ths SBH with the dragoon trigger guard, But I know people that love that gripframe. If you have found what works for you that's great, if not you may want to try a bisley seems most people like it the best.

5shooter, thanks for the input but I already have a 500 Linebaugh with the SBH grip frame that works great for me. I removed the Bisley frame because I didnt like the recoil. To each his own.

Grip frame choice is very personal. What works for some may not for others. I prefer the Bisley, but like the FA even more. But, as has been pointed out, hands and techniques vary. It's a good thing that we have choices!

Gunslinger Wow you already have a 500L with a SBH Grip I guess every bodys hands are different i prefer the Bisley grip. I never cared for the SBH grip with that squared trigger guard It really busted my knuckles

5shooter, Yep, I've owned about 5 Linebaugh 500's. including the very first Bisley 500 John Linebaugh made and Ross Sefried wrote about in G&A way back when. ( That gun had several problems) I never did like the Bisley grip. The SBH frame with a non serrated trigger works much better for me. The standard Blackhawk works well also. Looking forward to shooting one of Huntington's guns
