I could get a decent deal on a neat little Colt .44-40 4.75" NIB, but am a little leery about the "175th Anniversary" marking on the barrel. Leery in the sense that I'd rather it not be there.
Any notions developing on whether this will be an issue affecting value negatively in the future?

I wouldn't buy one with the mark. Others probably wouldn't either.
If you are having doubts now, wait until you own the gun and every time you pick it up the first thing you see is '175th Anniversary.'

I just bought one of the new Colt New Frontiers (7 1/2" .45 Colt) and the 175th anniversary mark on the top of the barrel is very small and unobtrusive. I am delighted with my new Colt NF. Fit & Finish is beautiful and CCH is also beautiful.

I bought mine, 5.5" 44 SPL, the first of September and it is a shooter. Got 565 rounds through it and it hasn't fallen apart.
Darn thing looks just like the one pictured on the Colt web page.

...about the "175th Anniversary" marking on the barrel.... If there was a 'puking' smilie, I'd use it here. (No offense, saajim. JMO) OTOH, I was under the impression the banner was fairly large and on the side of the barrel. Maybe Colt's wised up and changed it. I, too, would like to see a photo of the roll mark where and how it actually ended up.

No offense taken. Here's a link to the top and side of the barrel showing the markings. Not great quality images; used a scanner for the images. home.roadrunner.com/~jimstags/ColtNF/coltnf.htmJim ...about the "175th Anniversary" marking on the barrel.... Thanks for linking to those pics. From what I can tell the top strap on the new guns is shaped different than the earlier 3rd and 2nd gen guns. The front of the frame at the top of barrel looks to be much more upright than the earlier guns. It also looks like the medallions in the stocks are in a slightly different position than other Colt stocks.
I have also noticed that the Elliason rear sight is present on all the new production guns.

The Elliason sights are a great improvement.

Good looking stuff! FWIW the Elliason rear sight has always been a favorite of the target shooters. Back in the day we saw Pythons intended for the target range equiped with the Elliason and working pythons with what we then called the Colt Accro rear sight. The Elliason was standard on the Gold Cup. While the target shooters appreciated the big flat blade rear sight the Elliason was considered a more fragile rear sight. Guys who carried and used the gun as a tool wanted the Accro sight.

The fitting of the gripframe at the hammer is simply pathetic on the Gunblast NF: The ears have been buffed or matchined down so far that they can't possibly match with the hammer contour, and it even looks like the screws aren't even recessed because the ears are so thin! I am sorry, but that gun is not 'as good as any that Colt has ever produced.' The picture above shows exactly why I would never buy a new Colt SAA sight unseen.

I have to say, that's not so bad looking. I think the two lines with the anniversary roll mark would look more "right" on a 4 3/4" barrel though, as they were the ones that traditionally had two lines stamped.
