So, ive never fired a revolver larger than 44 magnum / 45 colt. What is the next stage recoil/manageable wise after that? 454 casull? 475 Linebaugh? 500? im not talking heavy hunting loads either. just kinda "standard" middle of the road stuff.

Depends how you load them. My next step up was to the .454, but that's before there was a .475 Linebaugh. Above the .44 Mag. / heavy .45 Colt, the next LOGICAL step in my opinion is the .475. Opinions will vary.

45LC 5 shot is the next step, then .454, .480/.475L, on up. I've never fired a .454, but some would argue that it's recoil is pretty close to the .475, maybe more.

Opinions? Yeah that is what we have! 5 shot 45/454/480/475/500WE/500L Is pretty much what I did. You end up spending a lot on the between steps! Go for the 500L! After you get the the 500L you can back fill with what ever you want!

If I were you and I was looking, I'd look at the .475L, and .500JRH.
But I'm not looking. I swear. Really....

Keep in mind that the 500JRH, 500WE, and 500GNR are all .500s. The 500L is a .510.

I don't even have to look.. Boys and their toys. The only limiting factors are imagination and money.

I was planning on skipping right up to the .500 with my first custom five-shot. The .480 SRH is the only .475 I'll have for the foreseeable future.

Well my Boom/Flash/Recoil addition has led me merrily down the garden path. Love, Love the 44MAG round so much you can do with it but wanted more Had a 460V from S&W (sorry gents not a single action), tremendous hand cannon, fires three calibers and the only revolver I know that makes firing 454Casull a walk in the park. The 460 round though was a major PIA to reload for, tough to find components and only Starline brass stood up to repeated reloadings. IMHO the 460 S&W Magnum is running closer to the edge than I'm comfortable in going. Stepped up to a 500 S&W Encore pistol, lower pressures, easier to source components (locally for me) and reloading was like an upgraded 44MAG round. However, the Encore platform really beat me up and I developed a flinch with that SOB. 500gr loading were very stiff but the crack of the 350gr loading just plain hurt. So I sold the Encore and traded the 460V for a shortened (6") Magnum Industries BFR in 45-70 to match my Marlin Guide Gun. Figured I already reload for the 45-70 and if I didn't like the BFR would trade it off easily. Well, the BFR is still around and I LOVE it. With trapdoor loads it's a real pussy cat but if you want to play modern lever action loads to ruger #1 loads will satisfy any big cannon junkie. Really didn't expect to fall for the "novelty" gun but she won me over with build quality, ease of reloading and BOOM factor. Now I just need a proper set of wooden grips as the rubber units while the work very well look just horrid. I still shoot my 44MAG wheelies more than the 45-70 but for me the BFR is the perfect gun to end a range session with.
