I was curious if anyone has any comments or experience with installing a Power Custom Half-cock Hammer / trigger kit on a New Model Blackhawk. Difficult or Easy or....? Also how does it sound and feel? I mean does it feel and sound like the Old Model Blackhawks or Colts when cocking or is it barely noticeable.
Thanks

T ome it feels like a Colt, the install isn't hard once you get the loading gate/cylinder stop spring out of the way, the best way I found to d oit is to grind down a small C clamp's little rotating head thing yand compress it withthat to take the pin out, just follow the instructions and tes twith dummies to make sure you don't blow anything up. FYI, now is a perfect time to put in a free spin pawl, but check cylinder alignment wit ha range rod if you do it all at once, very minor tolerance changes may make it a little bit out of alignment

Personally I think it gives some character to the almost sterile NM action.... FWIW of the two I have fooled the first was a drop in while the second was not... IMHO the free spin pawl is a much more practical modification for a gun you are taking to the woods...

It is, but like me, the man prefers 3 clicks to two

This brings up another question, does the hammer trigger kit work well with the free spin pawl? I have a free spin pawl in my bisley, but it no longers makes any clicks when rotating the cylinder, it's silent. Will the clicks disappear as well with a free spin pawl installed with the half-cock hammer/trigger installed also?
What I'm trying to decide on is whether to change my Lipsey 44 Special to a half-cock hammer or just save up and buy an Old Model Blackhawk 357 to convert to 44 special.

I asked the same questions when I did my first. Lots of people didn't understand why I wanted both... I still don't understand why you wouldn't want both. While I love it... All the half cock hammer trigger does is make the gun clack... You'll REALLY love the extra clicks the first time you are sitting in a tree stand and the buck of a lifetime comes by.... You must still open the loading gate to turn the cylinder. And you are still dead in the water if a bullet jumps crimp...

Well Gentlemen I think I solved my problem. I just purchased an old model 357 blackhawk for a future 44 special conversion (I posted that here in the Single Action group with questions). I am going to send the Lipsey off to Alan Harton for just an action tune and color case harden frame. As I acquire more parts for the old model 44 conversion, I will probably send that off to Alan when I'm ready. This way I have both styles of revolvers.

Excellent Logic.... I used the same rationalization when I bought the NM Clements #5 last week.... Now I have an OM Clements #5 and a NM Clements #5...

Just out of curiosity but doesn't the Lipsey's (as well as the 357 Flattop anniversary) use the kit for the New Vaquero due to being built on the smaller frame

I would think so. At least that is how I have been looking up parts, based on the New Vaquero. But now I am going to just have the stock action in the Lipsey only tuned no half-cock kit. I will just use the recently acquired Old Model for a true old style half-cock 44 special.

Maybe somebody on here can set the matter as to which set the Lipsey's takes straight. I just ordered one and I'd like to put the half cock guts in it. (I love working on commission as well as a salary at a gun shop when everybody and their brother is on a buying spree, leaves cash in the pocket to do some of the fun stuff once the bills are paid)
