I noticed that Davidson's removed their listing for the USFA Woodsman in both barrel lengths. They were supposed to be the exclusive distributor. Now no mention of the model on the USFA site, or any other automatic. Anybody hear if it has been scrapped?

I have it on good authority that the Woodsman is a "dead" project for now. The factory produced all the parts with the exceptions of the frames and slides. The parts are just sitting in a corner of the factory, waiting the Boss to give the green light for production.
USFA is not a "Normal" company, it is a very rich man's play toy. Doug's leadership and vision created the company and they are producing products second to none, but tomorrow he could decide he's just bored with the whole thing and shut it all down.
So if you're wondering why they seems to make product announcements that never get produced or make a new gun for a short while and move-on, now you have your answer.
It's frustrating to most of us; customers, observers and business people who see the potential for long term success and greatness for USFA, not to mention Doug's chance to have a lasting legacy as its creator.
So here's my advice, sell the wife, the kids the car, house, whatever if you need and want to; order the guns you want/desire, cross your fingers, that Doug doesn't get hit by a bus or something and hopefully in eight or nine months your dream guns arrive and you're good.
What customers, employees, dealers, distributors or the Queen of England have to say, simply does not matter. USFA will do whatever Doug says, plain and simple. So if you want one, get one, while the getting is good.

Here's an update posted by the Doug on the USFA, "Ask The President" portion of their website. Seems there may be hope for a Woodsman after all and for those seeking a 1911 as well.
Question: Submitted on: 7/25/2011 11:38:28 PM by: Robin P I am very interested in the Woodsman pistol, is your company going to indeed produce them?
Answer: I can tell your just as big a fan of the old Classic Woodsman and Match .22! Well now, the Woodsman has been a long term project at USFA. Which began in 2010/2011. (not a great time economically but we are moving forward. !) We've done a great job mastering parts that have been out of production for nearly 85 years.! Rediscovering some very interesting processes. Considering all this, our organic approach, included the purchase of substantial capital equipment... I'm sure you can appreciate all this. While we have respected the lines of the old Colt Match Target we have a critical innovation to both add flexibility and manufacturing quality to your new Match Woodsman. We have engineered an interchangeable barrel and slab sided barrel weight combination with a special bushing and wrench. You will see this offered in 2 lengths/2 calibers -all out of one magazine! Calibers will be .22 LR and the .22 Mach2. The tooling we have engineered will also allow for what we are calling the Classic Woodsman- the old smaller frame with tapered barrel-(not an interchangeable barrel) but perfect for the Camp or hiking or fly fishing in our National Parks! Inasmuch as we would like to push this entire project more quickly I'm sure you will appreciate the quality when finally delivered. We believe that with current market conditions that a 2012 expectation is more realistic. Good Shooting!
Question: Submitted on: 7/25/2011 9:46:57 PM by: MARK C WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL USFA 1910 & 1911? ALTHOUGH OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE, THEY WERE SOMETHING TO WISH FOR!
Answer: Yes Mark, that's true, they were very special hand crafted guns. We are rebuilding the fixtures but I'd estimate an availability next year. Thank you for your support and interest.
Start saving your pennies gentleman.

Those sound not altogether unlike the answers I got regarding the Omnipotent for about three years running ... always "next year" ... only it seems next year is always a year away (did I just paraphrase Little Orphan Annie?)
