That's odd as there is very little size difference between the two cases (.510 GNR and .500 Linebaugh). The loaded ammo I got for the .510 GNR was loaded long to nearly the same OAL of the .500 Linebaugh. I think the .500 Linebaugh is a pretty flexible cartridge that can be loaded up or down without issues. No need to steer clear of it IMO. Here are the cartridges side by side. I'll say, though, if people here are having no problem downloading their 500L guns, then its a moot point, really. For me, then, it would come down to which cartridge has the most available, reasonably priced brass... which I'm guessing is the 500L as Starline makes that.

Doug, the ammo produced by Cartridge Performance Engineering, the company that produces loads for Reeder, loads the .510 GNR long. I was a bit surprised when I opened the ammo boxes. I'll post up a photo a little later on.
Thanks for posting the photo!

Good time to talk about light loads in the 500L. Some of the Ross Seyfreid stuff posted in recent days writes about the 500L and issues with light loads. One would think that Trailboss might overcome most of that but...

Here you go. The cartridge on the left is a .510 GNR loaded by Cartridge Performance Engineering (beautiful bullet BTW!), and the .500 Linebaugh on the right.

Nice picture, Whitworth. Thanks for posting that. I need to know about light loads in the 500's because my wrists don't even like 335's at 1200 fps in my 5.5" Bilsey 45 Colt. That said, a 500 loaded up would sure give a sense of comfort while salmon fishing in grizzly territory.

24 GRAINS OF 4759, CCI 300, 450 grain Keith bullet does 1075 out of my 5.5 inch Linebaugh. Powder fills the case to the base of the bullet, standard deviation is 4. Blackhorn 209 is another great powder for less than maximum effort loads. I dislike partially loaded cases. Have also been trying AA #2, too much airspace at 12 grains and not as accurate as 4759. We need bulky powder like TrailBoss, but with slower burn rate like Unique or HS6. Full loads with WC 820 are doing 1294 fps and a sd of 7 but is a bit much for use, the recoil will make the gun come past my head. One hand loads are needed, I may be holding on to a tree or a horse when mr bear shows up. I wish John had made the 500 Linebaugh the same length as the 45 Colt, we would all be just as happy. Probably need to try LilGun next, supposed to ignite easier than some other powders.

Anybody cut a deal on that Bisley 50 Special Bowen custom yet? If that thing had adjustable sights on it you guys would have to run me off with a stick!
Wonder if the rim diameter will be an issue with the medium frame Ruger and the 50 Special. That would explain the ones done in the rimless 50GI...

Remember this? ;D [/quote] That dastardly evil one, (Kaytod), sorely tempted me with these images not too long ago. Somehow he knew that there was a fish out there that would bite, and subsequently become hooked. Naturally it didn't help matters in that I had to open my heart to the world....okay, to the forum about my desire to have a large bore custom. So I see this beauty and the hook was set. Then too an impromptu shooting fest one afternoon settled things for sure. Today I got my grubby mitts on this beauty I am as if reborn as a kid in a candy shop! Thanks HUGELY goes out to Kaytod for this treasure. Also for the little extras thrown in for good measure. Definitely appreciated my me! So in case any of you ever get to meet him be aware of some interesting things about him. I would go in to some gory details but I will refrain. However be forewarned! It has been many a year since I have had the pleasure of meeting another total psychopath! Just like me! ;D
