Below are the two new rifles to my collection. A UAR stamped Egyptian Rasheed Carbine and a Chinese Type 56 SKS Carbine imported by Navy Arms back in the 1980s. The SKS was made in 1968 and the Rasheed was made in the early 1960s. Both are chambered in 7.62x39mm, have ten round magazines, 20 inch barrels, and folding bayonets. That's where the similarities end. Two different rifles built with the same goal but completely different designs.

I used to own several Rasheeds. They are a really neat little rifle. Mine were all very accurate. You can definitely see how the SKS influenced their design.

I had never heard of a Rasheed Carbine, but they look handy. Are they hard to come by?

I had never heard of a Rasheed Carbine, but they look handy. Are they hard to come by? Yes... hard to find. Only about 6,000 were made in the early 1960s by Egypt. In 1967 Egypt got into a shooting war with Israeli (Six Day War) and got the crapped kicked out of them by the Israelis. Only about a 1.000 or so were imported into the USA by Century Arms in the early 1990s from Israel. The rest have been lost to history.
