Lee did a great work on the Herter's a while back which was very helpful in my shooting. Also Glen Fryxell did some stuff. In major magazines Taffin did a spot a while back and way before then it was Hal Swiggett shooting a Powermag. I loaned Dick Williams my Herter's and a bunch of original .401 ammo (the SWC in the photo) including my .38-40 spare cylinder and shells. I told him to look up Lee's article for some info. Dick did a good job compiling some interesting information in one place for a Powermag fancier to reference. Thanks again Lee for the work you put together. SB June 2011 Shooting Illustrated:

THAT would have been the perfect round for the Python, SAA and the yet to have been introduced 686 and GP100. As much as I love the .41 Magnum I think after looking at the GunBlast article the .401 would have been better...

The 401 Powermag is too hot for SAA's but would be fine in 5-shot 686s or GP100s. Ballistically it's equivalent to the 41 Magnum....no better, no worse. Unfortunately 40-cal bullet selection is geared towards the automatics. For that reason I swage 41-calibers to 0.401" for my Powermags. Everything from 215 gr SWCs up to 265 LFNs. It's a great single-action round though if you like convertibles. 10mm Auto, 38-40, 40 S&W, 10mm Magnum, or my 401 Bobcat could be the primaries. The only downside is brass availability. If you don't mind making your own here's how I form PowerMags: www.singleactions.com/401HerterPowermagCaseForming.html-Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Lee, Great article, I made some using 30-30 cases and worked fine, Using .41 mags is a lot easier, Wish I could find a roll crimp die.

My dad and I may be offering a universal crimp die that'll take taper or roll inserts for 22 through 50 cal. I have both types for my 10mm's. I'll keep you posted if we get this off the ground. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

, Wish I could find a roll crimp die. I have not been able to acquire ,borrow or try one but do you suppose a 38-40 factory or roll crimp would work?
