My daughter's fiance' has been given a family heirloom that he wants more information on. It is a Remington derringer. They are not near me so all I can do is get a couple of (hopefull good) pics and the serial number and caliber. What is a source to try to age this gun once I get the serial number?

The Blue Book should (I am offshore Kazakhstan now so can't get to mine) discuss what you are after. There is three variants identified by the Remington "rollmark" that have three periods in what they were made and three different values. Also, IIRC, Wikepedia had a bit on them as well. They are cool little guns. Here's mine.

Remington restarted the serial numbers with each different series. You have to go off the features of the gun, particularly the location and test of the factory address. Let us know where it is and the exact text and we can help you narrow it down.

They are interesting little guns & seem to have been popular. I don't know much about them, but am interested in watching this thread to learn more from those who do know about them. Thanks. Frank
