Anyone going to blade this year? I had the weekend off, but was asked to work. I guess it's all for the best considering that I am in hock for a couple of M1's and owe Gallagher for some color case work. Would have been like going to a brothel just to look around. Maybe one day I will get one of those Ed Fowler Pronghorns.

I very nearly went, but decided was more within my budget to take a couple of local photography classes. I have been, in the past, three or four times, the most recent being 2007. It actually very possible to enjoy the Blade Show without much money in pocket, because it is not oriented so much toward on-site selling, compared to a gun show. Many of the custom makers are there to show samples of their work, but may have few or no knives for actual on-site sale. Some of the makers whose wares are in particularly high demand will hold a lottery, with a drawing to see who has the first option to buy what little is available. A few of the top makers have stopped taking orders, in order to concentrate on filling existing orders, but will attend, because it is the big event for the entire universe of custom and production knives.
The manufacturers, such as Spyderco, may have a display, but nothing for sale, because of a desire to not compete with their local dealers.
Moreover, there will be demos and seminars. The Blade Show is a good place to visit, whether buying a blade or not. I based my decision to stay home, largely, based on who was going to be there this year, and how likely I would be to see them there next year, when I will, hopefully, not have so much on my plate as this year. I also prefer it when the event is held just a bit earlier, to better catch the wildflowers and blooming trees as I drive through Dixie from Texas. Good Lord willin', I will have a few more good years left for traveling.
Next year, let's try to remember to discuss this subject a bit earlier. Being able to meet a fellow six-gunner might be just the kick I need to set off on the 12+ hours of driving to the Atlanta area.
