I wish they made a 97 Field Grade with Blk Micarta standard for around $1250.00. I think they'd have a renewed interest in their Excellent Products! Yeah, I could go for that.

Those black Pachmyers' on a handgun that costs big bucks don't do it justice. The Field Grade would look and shoot so much better, with black micarta panels. It's sorta like buying a high end car, with an 8 HP engine..... Bought my Field Grade about '96/'97 for $1,277.00. Since I've had a mini-stroke in April, that 6" handgun seems to be way too heavy.Sure won't be shooting any full house loads for quite a while.

I just sent my M83 FG .454 Casull back to Freedom Arms and had a set of Black Micarta grips & a .45 ACP Cylinder fitted. Customer Service told me that they do not offer the Pachmayr rubber grips on their revolvers anymore and that they are now called at least weekly by owners requesting Pachmayr grips for existing revolvers. They even told me not to toss my Pachmayrs since there was an active secondary market for used M83 Pachmayr grips on Gun Broker.

I spoke w/ Denice at Freedom Arms. If you look on the FA website, you will also see that Field Grades now come standard w/ the same Laminated Hardwood grips as the Premier Grades.

I was referring to the rumor mongering about FA for sale.

I've heard nothing but rumors... On the rubber grips it is the nature of the beast. People just like to complain. Just like the steel grip frames on the Flattops..

A wise man told me there have been rumors of FA being in bankruptcy since 1983. So who knows but I know I want a few more of their guns...

Excellent point... I'm thinking we'd better stock up for just in case! I traded for what I think is #17 this week..

I loath web rumors. So many "experts" postulating on things they have no clue about. Axe & Fowler have the best plan by the FA of your dreams, quickly. I have on hand a 3" 97 in 45 Colt. I'm building some horse hide gear for it for a friend. It makes me want a 3 in 44 special... Did I mention the Alan Harton ejector button? or the slightly rounded black micarta stocks...SIGH...

I can't speak to the sale piece, but they definitely filed bankrupcy last November. Here's the proof bankrupt.com/misc/wyb10-21370.pdfI sure hope they stay around. It's hard to match their quality and commitment to building a fine revolver.

All I can say is if you love single actions and don't have one you really need one. The price won't bother you nearly as much when you get it in your hands and see how much better it is that the standard single action. I have three of the 83's and would love to have a 97..

Bought my first 454 for $600! Still thank they are worth the price. If they had a longer cyclinder, they might almost be the perfect single action. Still would like to have a 500L. Man those 97's sure do carry good. Sure would like to have a 44 special 97. The 97 in 41 mag that I have shoots like it has radar on it. I bet a 44 special would to.

My FA 97 will be one of the last guns out of the house. A GREAT gun!
That said, I have to admit that we are seeing more folks selling good guns and there are fewer people buying expensive guns. HOWEVER, some of those with money are buying MORE expensive guns but those seem to be the collectible guns. IOW, they are diversifying their investments.
