This weekend I ran a couple rounds thru my pet longrange rifle. Its a Savage 110 Tactical 300 Win Mag,Choate Sniper stock,Sharp Shooter trigger, and a 3.5x10 Leupold Tactical scope in Leupold mounts. This rifle will shoot 1/4 inch groups on a daily basis at 100 yards and will stay inside 3 inches at 400 yards. Now here is the puzzling part,as ranges increase the bullets start hitting to the left,at 400 it will shoot its groups almost 3 inches to the left, and its not wind, does it early in the morning when its dead still. Anyone have any ideas or insight?

Bullets tend to drift in direction of barrel twist also is your scope level?

Yes scope is level. Even did this with a different scope. I have had it for about 12 years and have checked all the normal stuff. Its not really an issue,I have corresponding windage corrections on my range card. Last year I whacked a doe at 375 just dialed 8 up and 3 right and pinwheeled her. I was just curious as to what could cause it to act that way.

My first guess would be that the scope is tilted in relation to the rifle or the rifle is out of level in the bags or on a bipod. The farther you crank up the elevation, the more the bullet impact is going to yaw in the direction of the tilt. I fixed mine by leveling the rifle, drew a 36" verticle line on a target with a 4' level, then without affecting the rifle level, I loosened the scope & aligned the cross hairs with the verticle line. I then confirmed by getting a very good 100 yard zero & then cranked up the scope 36 moa. Using the same aiming point I fired another group. The group was 36" high & centered well on the line. I set zero on my knobs & have been a happy camper since. Now I just have to remember to keep my cross hairs good & verticle. Hope this wasn't too long winded but my results were good. 2-4 mph wind:

OK, my typing is slow & wasn't aware that you & Len had addressd the level question. I think Leupolds are damn good scopes but have seen some that the cross hairs are not level with the turret. The crank up test I tried to explain may show something. Len is spot on about effects of barrel twist & there is even the rotation of the earth to consider, but I havn't really noticed that inside 6 or 700 yards, maybe its there & I haven't recognized it.
