Hello all, One of my sons had Cerebral Palsy and is unable to move his arms, legs, or speak with any degree of precision. Cognitively he is fine and attends Third Grade like all the other kids. He uses a computer to "talk" and do his school work. He is such a great kid and I love him to death. Now here is the Sixgun part. I have tried very hard to include him in our shooting trips. It is very difficult to take him. I have tried to help him to use my Marlin 39 Mountie, but it is not that much fun for him. I was thinking about using a Ruger Super Single Six Hunter Model, using the Burris Ruger to Weaver adapter and sticking a big Red Dot on the barrel. The barrel length would allow me to safely shoot from his wheel chair and the single action would be pretty safe and would allow us to only be cocked and ready when on target. He could look through the red dot and signal me when he is on target, then we could squeeze the trigger together and hopefully hit every now and again. What do you guys think? Am I on the right track? Any suggestions? Here is the current set up It is not too much fun. Thanks for any help or suggestions, Matt

I should add that the rifle is unloaded, we are just trying to figure out how to make it work. That is why we don't have eyes and ears on.

I commend you for involving your son in shooting. I think you are right on. I pistol with a red dot is inherently fun for a kid to shoot. I started both of mine out with .22 Ruger autos and red dots.
Good job dad.

This rifle is short and light weight www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=230650394 This rifle is very accurate and will break in with a liittle use on the action. This is possibly the best general use .22 bolt action rifle on the market today. It is the best for the money. There is a YO Dave trigger kit with 4 selectable springs that will take it down to ounces if you wish. If you put a little frame around the front of the chair that he can rest it on with some assistance and he should be able to pull the trigger on his own. You can also mount a small scope because it has a rail groove for the scope mounts.

I'm thinking a small rest made from square tubing and attached to the stroller would help alot. PM me on your Ruger FS

A few years ago I had the privilege of helping out on a handicapped hunt down at the Cowden Plantation.
All were in wheelchairs and most had a gun rest attachment some even had cable releases. I worked with them on the range getting sighted in which they really enjoyed and it was amazing how accurate they were.
I would look at a rifle rest attachment and a rifle with whatever optics make sense a red dot may be the best starting point.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I am going to stick with the SSS for him. A rifle is just too difficult. I like the idea of a bar or rest. I am going to make one that his wheel chair will roll onto to make it stable.
I thought about the Charger and if he was just a bit more relaxed, I would go with it. However he tenses up and I would not like to try and remove it from him while is remains loaded and ready to fire.
Any more suggestions or thoughts are welcomed.
Thanks to all,
Matt

Sir, whatever your boy may have been dealt by way of disadvantages in life, he was richly blessed in the daddy department, and that is a priceless treasure that will serve him all his life. I'm so glad there are guys like you out there.
Best regards, DeWayne
