The Magnum Research BFR five-shot 45 Colt +P and the BFR in 454 Casull...
Based on casual observation... Are they the same gun except for the markings ?

yes and no, if there both the older PRE JT models then yes other than chamber of course, but new BFRs (JTs ser.) never were chambered in 45Colt.

The old BFR can handle 5shot 45 Colt loads. As Bigbores said, the new BFR is all 454, no 45 Colt onlys.

One of the really nice things about the older non JTs; there gripframe interchange with rugers. Here's a bisley gripframe on a 5 shot BFR 45colt, above a custom Bisley 475L.
