Don't judge me or my gunsmith too hard on this one. My finances don't let me have the fun I used to. I parted out a NM .41 mag with a prewarning barrel and recessed cylinder. Kept the barrel for this project. The parts sales on the 41 offset the work on this one to within $10. I bought the max as a Bisley with a scope. Top strap holes still need filled and caliber markings need changed, but it chambers and fires rounds loaded in a batch of cases I have marked "414 E.T. GATES". Yes it needs work, and yes, those are polymer Hogues reprofiled by yours truly, but it helps offset the heartache from having to let my 1.4" 41 go. If you belong on this forum, you can't tell me it doesn't make your heart leap to see a max with a prewarning barrel.

There's nothing beater about that gun John. Looks really nice and you picked a great cartridge for that Max frame. Let us know how it shoots. BTW. the last of the Elgin 414 brass run from '88 just dried-up. Hopefully you're set on cases. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I'd be proud to own that one. I always wanted a 414. Sounds like I waited too long with the brass situation.

Sounds like my luck. I could save 4 years to get a Linebaugh, run on 475 brass while its in shipping and obsolete at delivery...

first thing I tried out was 26.0 grains of 296 under a 220 jacketed SWC.
I was a little close to the chronograph and it was windy, so i got some pretty skewed numbers, but the two shots that seemed most "realistic" were between 1500 & 1600 fps.
