So, you loading cast bullets intended for the 45-70/450M or jacketed 458s? Where did the serial number get moved to?

Yep, All heart and love to stir the pot! (in a good way)
458-400 is a 1.4" 45-70 (or 475 Linebaugh) Straight cased, no neck? The necked version is Lee's 458 bonecrusher I think. Perhaps I now have them "right" in my mind. I know John does a 458 Maximum which is a 1.6" 45-70 or you can use 475 Max brass too.
I do remember there being a 1.4 458 win belted in revolvers. I believe Ross Seyfried had one and wrote about it in an old G&A issue. Been some years ago.
Thanks Todd

Serial number is still in same location. You just can't see it in the picture. The original 458-400 was a 1.4" cartridge. This is a later version that uses the 1.29", or whatever it is, 480 Ruger. Its early this morning but I'm pretty sure the 480 is the same length as the 44 mag, not the 454 or the 475L. But..the original version did use cut down 45-70 brass and was about 1.4" in length. I saw one sell not long ago on one of the auction sites. Yes Axe, the gun uses cast slugs for the 45-70. I have a really nice Miha mold that throws about a 350 grain Hollow point. I'm thinking that bullet cast as a soft nose bullet with hardened back would be just about perfect for this little gun.

Todd, you're close. My 450 Bonecrusher is based on 500 Linebaugh brass necked to 458. My 458 Devastator is on belted magnum brass trimmed to 1.40" -Lee www.singleactions.com
