I have always wanted a 5 shot 45. Don't really see how you could beat this one. Did it take along time to get the conversion done? Like the man said, the componets are cheaper than the 475 or 500. Thanks for sharing the photo's. It took just about a year or a bit more from start to finish. It was at the welder for a bit, then to Fishpaw for 4 months or so then to Turnbull. I'd say Bowen had it for less than 6 months in his hands and the rest of the time in the hands of the others. It wasn't an easy decision to go with the 45 over the 475 or 500, but was made easier when I asked Ross Seyfried if he'd change anything about his #13 and he said that if he were doing it now he'd chamber it in 45 colt. I'll try to get some better pics including topstrap in the next day or so. Thanks for the kind words guys!

I would like to hear what the other thoughts about this gun where that mhblaw spoke o fmaybe he has a good point that we are all over looking. As for me thats about all the .45 colt I'd ever need. Beauty strength and very functional I would never presume to speak for mhblaw or anyone else. The logic is that if you are going to go through the expense and wait for a 5 shot why not go with the larger bores. They can be loaded down to "plinking" level but then have the extra power the 45 doesnt. 20 years ago the 45 Colt to me was a more logical choice because brass was much easier to come by. I do subscribe to this thought processes but I would never fault anyone for choosing the 45 Colt.

What a gorgeous firearm!
As for .45Colt over a 475 or .500LB;well that should be up to you, this wasn't a budget build, I really doubt the added cost of some custom dies and ammo would have put this build over budget!
I'm on a .500-.512 kick right now but at some point I want to build a really nice .22LR, maybe make it look like a single six sized nimrod with a number 5 gripframe, so when it comes to customs what ever you want is how it should be.

Maybe mhblaw's original thoughts were ones of envy? ;D I know mine were before I figured I better compliment Mike on his great choice of gun, caliber and artists. Hamilton himself in The Custom Revolver calls the 45 Colt the most flexible of the bigbore cartridges. I know I went back and forth on the the 5 shot vs 6 shot 45 on my Forkin gun and while Ben said the 5 shot has more upper end potential for my use the 6 shot was fine. I really like the flat top frame with the windage adjustable rear sight on this gun and as usual, Turnbull and Fishpaw do work that must be seen in person to fully appreciate the artistry and level of finish.
Make sure you let us know how it shoots one you get it out.

Forkin Custom Guns. Ben Forkin built this 5 shot on an AcuSport Bisley .45. Stocks by Dustin Linebaugh.

I've always had a thing for 5-shot 45 Colts. Some folks argue if you go 5-shot, it ought to be a 475 or 500. I disagree though. Throttled-up, there's no situation a 335 grain 45 cal slug can't handle. And if it can't, I'm grabbing a rifle. On the low-end, bulk bullets for practice are a lot cheaper in 45 than 475 or 500. Not taking anything away from the bigger bores, just that a 5-shot 45 is extremely versatile. Either way, that's a great looking conversion you have there. Thanks for sharing. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I meant no disrespect to either mike454 or Hamilton Bowen. I have 5 different customs by Hamilton and, obviously, really like his work. My question about the 5 shot 45 Colt was answered very well by other comments. Good shooting!

Thanks again guys. Beautiful gun Tom. I have a gun with John Linebaugh right now that I would like to get some of Dustins grips on, But John tells me that Dustin is really busy now and not making many grips.

Mike, I have a .44 spl conversion by Dustin Linebaugh. He put ivory macarta grips on it and you can not tell by feel where the grip and steel meet.

I'll have to own up to a personal lusting for full blown 5 shot customs in common calibers... I own a pair of 5 shot 45 Colt Rugers and really like that 44 mag Nimrod that has been on GB recently..

Great looking work but the strangest SA I have ever seen. Obviously for a large hand and a big guy with hunting on his mind.
