Well guys, payment has been sent for my first .475 bore. Hopefully it will arrive late this week or early next week!! The deal on the BFR on the Ruger forums was just too good to pass up.
Unfortunately, the barrel is too long for my taste, so I have spoken to Dave Clements about shortening it and also checked out the magnum research precision center options. Not sure what I will do yet, but am leaning towards sending it to MR to have a 4 5/8" octagon barrel installed. Now I just have to get a mold, sizing die, cases, holster, load data, custom grips...man, this is getting expensive for such a good deal!! Reminds me of an old truck I once owned.
Oh well, it's only money. Will try to get some before and after photos to share.

Congrats on th gun. Before you send to MR for the octagon be aware that MRs octagons look like this.

Well that makes the decision easier...it will not be getting an MR octagon. That is just not pretty at all...

Is there some particular reason it's that way? If Clements (or others) were to replace it in a custom basis, could it be done with a "normal" octagon barrel?
I wouldn't say it's not pretty, just different.

The only reason I can think of is because its easier. They install the barrel then mill the flats. The official reason is if you make it octagon all the way to the frame you lose 20% of your surface area contacting the frame. Then glue is needed to help hold it in just "like their competition".Never asked but I assume he was talking about FA.
