Ruger Bisley conversion on the way from Jack, plus he's sending some load data and brass. For reduced loads he's sending some info for Lil' Gun powder. Looking in the basement box I already have a lot of Unique, HS-6, and Titegroup. I'll contact Jack about this but do any of you have recommended loads for these powders for ~ 950 fps?
Thx for any help.

The 500 JRH with a 440 grain HC bullet in front of 14.0 grains of HS-6 will get you 976fps from a 6" barrel in 75*F weather.

10 grains of 231 behind a 440 grain bullet and a LP primer will get you right around 950 fps.

Wish someone would work up some load data with a pressure barrel for the 500JRH. The lack of load data is the the biggest complaint I have with the 500JRH. When I got my 500JRH from Jack Huntington I was told to use load data for the 475Linebaugh as it would give about the same FPS with the same grs of powder and same weight bullet. I choose to work up loads using the starter loads for the 500WE.

I'm hoping that now that Magnum Research offers the 500 JRH in the production gun that we'll soon have a SAAMI spec and published loading data...

Does custom shop mean production?

They are a regular production item now and not a Precision Center only item anymore.

Here are some 400 gr bullet loads from various sources including Jack. None chrono'd yet by me so use normal starting load procedure and work up as usual:
Trailboss - edit - need to review this load data to ensure it's correct. Lil Gun 24gr at 1100 fps Titegroup 11gr at 1000fps 231 10 gr at 950fps
This last load is said to be very accurate. Hope to be checking this out myself with my newly arrived JRH.

Jack told me the 10 of 231 was the most accurate loading he'd run. Got a friend in Missouri I'm trading for some 231. $300 for an 8# jug here right now. Has anyone run any loads with 16 of HS6 rather than 14 with a 440 or 450? None of the guys in my circle have one of the .500 JRH except me, so I'm going off Jack's knowledge and advice for starting points, as compared to what established data from my bunch is. I'm running 450 LFNGC from Dave Jennings. If any of you guys have advice/expeience with HS6 loads on this one, I'm all ears

I just got done running a load with HS6 through the Crony. It is 15.5 grains of HS6 under a 460 grain LFN style bullet and a Federal 210 primer. It went just over 1100 fps. That was about 6' from the muzzle.

I'll bet that's a nice shooting load, mellonhead. I was looking to try 15-16 grs of HS-6 under a 440 myself.

Posted to this thread so that 500JRH info would be in one place and easier to find Took a picture of some loads I tested the other day and wanted to see if the picture "cropping" on photbucket worked as expected. The gun: Freedom Arms M83 w/5" Octagon barrel, converted by JRH. Don't trust my results w/iron sights anymore, so I mounted a 4x Leupold for the test. Three shot groups at 52 yards off a military cavas pouch stuffed with old clothes rested on the back of my pickup's tonneau cover. I used an old blanket to support/cushion my wrists and elbows. The loads -- Fed 210 primers and Starline 500 S&W brass cut to length and rims turned: 370gr Cast Performance WFNGC w/14.8gr HS6 400gr Cast Performance WLNGC w/14.8gr HS6 400gr Cast Performance WLNGC w/26.6gr IMR4227 400gr Cast Performance WLNGC w/31.3gr H110 440gr Leadheads WFNGC w/14.8gr HS6 On the full target, the lower left group was with the 400gr/31.3gr H110 load. The flyer was the 3rd shot (first two touching). When I went to reload for the next test group, I noticed that the cylinder bolt spring was broken. Don't know if this could have caused the flyer or not. Three shot groups ranged from 1.9" to 3.3" (the 400/31.3 flyer group). Even with the extra weight of the scope, the 400gr/31.3gr load is about my limit for recoil. I ordered new bolt springs Friday and will chrono the above loads after replace the spring. . .

Stan.... don't believe Magnum Research is a member of SAAMI. Nor Freedom Arms, for that matter. I think Dick Casull's .454 cartridge was pushed through by SAAMI member companies wanting to make the ammo. With cartridges such as the .357 Maximum and .480 Ruger, both firearm and ammo manufacturers are SAAMI members. David Bradshaw
