Hey Guys I have a BFR in .500 JRH coming in a few weeks and I am looking for some load data.for 440-450 grain cast bullets both light and heavy. I have Brass,Ammo and load data on the way from Jack Huntington but would like some of your input as well.
Thanks for your input. Otto

I don't like to give out load data, but I fill safe giving out data from John Taffin. www.customprojectile.com/handgun_loading_data.htmlit only has one bullet weight but it will get you started. I would wait until you have your gun before loading up anything.

With all the usual disclaimers..... I'd start with 500WE data. Do the standard 10% reduction...

One of the loads Jack has said was extremely accurate was 10grs of 231,for about 950fps.

Is this one of the new run of .500 JRH guns or is it from their custom shop? I haven't called them yet but am getting lathered up for ordering one.
I don't have any loading info but from experience with the .475 BFR I'm thinking I'd try 231 for light loads and HS6 for mid-range stuff.

What does Jack charge for a 500JRH cyclinder? Wonder how long it takes him?

If the 500JRH case can be made from shortening 500 Smith cases does the inside of the case need to be reemed?

Finally busted the cherry on my Clements .500 JRH tonight.
27.0 grains of W296, ignited by a CCI Large Pistol Magnum Primer, caused my Montana Bullet Works 450 grain LBT bullet to head out the end of the tube at an avg of 1239 FPS, with a ES of only 13 and a little ol' SD of 5. This was my starting load. Cases fell out of the chambers and were a little sooty. I have no idea as to accuracy, I have to get a taller rear sight. Sent em all under the target. I was more concerned with not putting a bullet in my chronograph.
Recoil seemed less punishing than my load using 25 grains W296 under a 400 lbt in my .475. The guns are identical except for caliber and I shot the .475 before and after the .500.

My go-to load is a 440 grain bullet over a stiff load of 296 (PM me for load details), and it clocks right at 1,350 fps out of my 6.5-inch barreled BFR, and will shoot well under an inch at 50 yards.

This is a three-shot group at 50 yards: The worst I got with factory loads from Grizzly Cartridge was about 1 1/4-inch and this was at 50 yards with 5-shots. This revolver has exceeded all of my expectations!
