I am looking for a good but cheap scope for on my sons Rem 7 in 308. I have been looking at the Leupold VX1 2-7 33mm. I saw one on ebay and the box said "rimfire". The Leupold website does not say anything about rimfire. Will a rimfire scope work on the 308? What is the difference between rimfire and a regular scope?
Thanks, HH

usually on a rimfire scope that does not have parallax adjustment, the parallax is factory set around 60 yards verses 100 yards for center-fire cartridges.
Some of the Leupold 2X7 vx11 scopes are adjustable, they call those lightweights.

What is parallax? You might look it up on the Googles ( to quote Pres Bush). Good thing about a Leupold scope is that they have a great warranty. If it didn't hold up they should fix it. I would say the cheaper .22 scopes wouldn't hold up to a light-weight .308 for very long.

Parallax? Easy example is riding down the road sitting in the passenger seat. You look at the analog speedometer and the hand is on 45 while the driver sees 60! So long as you look exactly straight on there is no effect. Has no effect if you look exactly down the middle of the scope either. Put your crosshairs on the target and move your head around. If the crosshairs move on the target your parallax is not set for that range... PA adjustable scopes can be set for specific ranges.
