The thought has crossed my mind a few times of bobbing the hammer on at least one of my single actions, I know it might make it danged hard to shoot but in the last few years the hammer keeps wearing a hole in my gut if I just stick it in my pants to get the mail or run next door. They never used to do that but the hmmers must be stretching from continued use. What do you think, To bob or not to bob.

Leave it as is. I always considered dehorning to be worthwhile on DA carry guns only. And even then I'm not a big fan of that mod.

Yes, just cut the entire spur off. That will solve most of your SA problems...

I have seen holsters similar to the Tom Threepersons pattern that had a hammer guard (back of the holster extended high enough to be between you and the hammer). It makes ALL of the difference.

My vote is for not monkeying with your hammer, notwithstanding that it has probably stretched considerably over time. JMHO.
"...it might make it danged hard to shoot..." is the operative phrase in your post. If the gun is indeed difficult to operate, it won't be useful when you need it most. That said, your better option may be to change guns (for CCW). Consider a striker fired semiauto lacking all those nasty horns.
Though I dearly love my single actions, I am normally found to be carrying a high capacity Springfield XD or Glock when I'm out and about the public. Admittedly, things are different when I'm in the woods.

I would not bob it because it will just grow again regardless of what you do with the hammer . You may wish to look at another alternative that has been known to work and it is cheaper. Why not try to bob a few doughnuts.
Shoulder holsters are a great alternative and work very well.

Would not have to worry about keep your finger off the trigger only keep youf thumb on the hammer. I need mine to have the ability to function as fast and easy as possible. I would rather have something a little uncomfortable in my stomach as opposed to anything very uncomfortagle in my chest or worse.

I hope no Lawyers read that post.
I don't ever want to read a thread about "pre bobbed vs bobbed" single actions!!

2 dogs just think of the savings on ammo costs.

You could bore out a metal ball bearing, one about 1/2" or so in diamater, and fix it onto the end of the spur.

It most certainly would have to be a new model with a free spin pawl. Otherwise you would never be able to get it loaded.......
Thats what I call Six Shot Safe.....

walkswithguns, Go here and get you one of these. www.estwing.com/product.php?product_id=300You can carry strong side, weak side, open, or concealed, with little or no discomfort. Does not raise panic with the public. Henry, brother of 2dogs swears that this item is as smart as 2dogs.

Bob that hammer off. Get you one of them side cockers like they put on them Winchester 94's with a scope. That will keep the hammer from digging in to you unless you put it in your pants the wrong way. Just a few words of caution, be careful walking by things you would not want to snag that side hammer and cock it when you wasn't ready!
