A couple of those look like they have a pretty good grain pattern to them. Very cool. I've never considered micarta because I always thought it was just a solid black.

Oh no, not solid, I've seen it alternating colors like a laminate, that looks kind of cool, but I awlays wondered about delamination

Oh no, not solid, I've seen it alternating colors like a laminate, that looks kind of cool, but I awlays wondered about delamination Delamination? You mean you expect the stuff to start peeling apart? Do you have any info that would warrant someone worrying about that? You are the first person that I have ever heard say something like that about Micarta. If you'd ever worked with Micarta, you'd know it just aint so. Please note that I'm not taking anything personal here. I know you are talking about the material and not my grips. It's just something that I'd never expect to hear about Micarta. Just wondering where you would get an idea like that.

I was under the impression that ove rtime, heavy recoil, and adverse conditons (like rain, sleet, snow, hot desert temperature, etc.) that micarta, as well as most of the laminates, would eventually start to come apart

I always get Micarta on my FA guns and they are never treated nicely and are never guns that don't "recoil" per se and they have always looked new. If you scratch them bad on rocks or such, it can be buffed out. I love micarta on certain sixguns!

I've worked with micarta on some other projects and would really be suprised if it came apart. Dang stuff is tough. I imagine my 5 year old twins could probably tear it up, though. ;D
Super nice grips, guys!

Cary turned me on to the flat bottoms and round edges with my very first set... The characteristic is now so deeply ingrained in my CLC grip set that he actually questioned my buying the burl mesquite he posted a while back on the basis that they were not flat bottomed.....

I agree, those flat bottomed grips do look pretty neat. I may have to place an order myself.

Micarta- nearly indestructible, 'cept by flame: I have WWII era knife handles with micarta & brass inserts. There is a reason why they made control panels on WWII fighters and bombers out of it; it's strong and stable.
