I would like to get a set of grips for my Ruger Bisley that fills in a little behind the trigger guard. My finger is getting wacked pretty good in recoil. Any suggestions? Pretty is good, but functional is better.
Thanks

Eagle grips makes a over-sized bisley grip. It started out for my 475Linebaugh and worked great other than the looks then it moved over to a large frame BFR in 45-70 where it fit better, but still seemed a little bit misplaced finally it found a happy home on my hard kicking 500S&W BFR. On a side note, fitting a bisley grip to a newer BFR is more work than its worth I wouldn't do it again. Here's a picture of the eagle-grip on the 45-70. Its ebony and the fit is really good I like the grip just didn't like it on my 475.

You may need less grip, not more. My first 5 shot Bisley used a factory grip/grip frame and it beat my middle knuckle mercilessly. It would swell up and hurt for a week.
My second 5 shot (in a worse caliber) has a slightly altered grip/frame and it doesn't touch my knuckle no matter what the load.

cas, are you referring to reshaping the squarish profile behind the trigger guard? Or setting back the front end of the grip frame?

I have big hands, I've found that the bisley grip frame whacks my middle knuckle pretty hard on most anything north of 5 shot .45 colt. Jack Huntington can weld/re-shape a SBH grip frame so it doesn't hit your knuckle. I'm sure forum members have pics. It's not the most elegant looking, and I'm not going to sit here and tell you it "tames" recoil. But it doesn't bash my middle knuckle.

I don't like the bisley grip because I can't get my little finger on the bottom of the frame to contol the guns roll . Try it , it is FREE advise on gun control .

If the grip is built properly and profiled properly, there is no need to build it behind the trigger guard or leave a finger under the frame. Recoil is reduced as much as can be by the profile of the grip.

I have small hands compared to most shooters I know. I favor the Super Blackhawk grip frame shape, especially after the trigger guard is rounded. Here's a old 10" barreled .44 Flattop with an owner modified New Model Super Blackhawk grip frame. Ruger's stainless Blackhawks and Supers can be fitted with the Hunter grip frame. Carl
