That should be lots of fun. Here's my 12ish" mgm 25tcu (bottom). With the brake, it barely leaves the bag. I have a 257jdj and 6.5jdj as well. Been trying to trade a gentleman for a 6.5jdj#2, but we havent come to an agreement ....YET. I'm wanting to try the 6.5jdj#2 using some 307 brass.

I hope you can find dies for the #2 version if you end up with that barrel or find others to use. I know that JD didn't have any when I talked with him not long ago about that barrel. I'm assuming there has to be something close out there as in an AI of some version that will possibly work. Be careful with that 307 version..it looks like it could hold enough powder to make the frame unhappy

Stan, Reeder builds an excellent muzzle brake.....if you want to put a rifle scope on your barrel you might outta check one out. His turn around time is spectacular and Reeder always has good prices on his stuff. I have one on my 7mm GNR and its so easy to make hits with it its amazing.

Good points Fermin. I have Reeder's brake on all my 405 based wildcat barrels. This 204 based thing is so small I'd hoped to do it brakeless to cut down on the noise on my end.. The barrel is the full up heavy for an Encore. With only a 6.5 bore it will be a chunk. Brass and bullets arrived yesterday. May get to see the Raptor barrel today. With this springlike weather yard work may tie me up some for a few days but I'll shoot it ASAP. Hit me on the way to work that the rifle scope objective may be an issue with the low rings I have on hand. Had to go to medium rings for the 2.5-8 Leupold on the 257GNR. Needed one more set of rings and base for the Encore anyway..

I'm into one of the later Raptors, a 30 cal and am really impressed with it's performance and versatility. These cases formed from 223 Basic (47mm) from Starline.

I know I'm diggin' up bones .. but I live and breathe the little break-actions. Axehandle, Do you use a spacer on top of your shellholder for the Hornady/Reeder FL die? I can't run my shellholder to the die on my 30 Raptor set or it pushes the shoulder way too far down the case. Thanks, Jimmy

I got a 30 Raptor barrel from Gary when he first chambered it and helped in load development. I took the first game animal with the 30 Raptor in 2015. I got really good accuracy from my 14” Contender.

I picked up a 6.5 Raptor when they first came out. Shot very little, but has potential. Worked mostly with 95-100 grains with Varget.

randominator, I'd like to see a pic of your 30 Raptor cartridge for comparison. My concern is the discrepancy in the length of neck between these Shown is a Nosler 168 gr BTHP on my 30 Raptor and 300BLK These are the early Raptors 240,257, and 6.5. Does that neck look like any of the Raptors that Gary made? It was formed using 204 Ruger brass Thanks in advance for your perspective. Jimmy

My position is that Reeder would not alter the dimensions other than neck diameter for calibers within a cartridge family

Instead of a 6.5/444 why not go with a factory offering,.......6.5x57R, a fairly common offering found in Drilling’s, and Combination guns from Europe. In rifles it provides excellent performance on par with 260/6.5CM/6.5x55/etc.

I just had MGM build me a 6.5 Grendel Barrel. Factory Brass, Dies, no forming or fireforming, etc.
For heavier bullets, have a Bullberry 6.5x54. Same simplicity as above.

committed to contender Grendel is great 6.5 JDJ is good Photo of 6.5 only for establishing 'normal' Raptor neck I'm into a 30 bore barrel with essentially a 222 rem case blown out to .308 30 Raptor 'improved upon'? Looking for diagnosis of a 'funny' neck Not planning to change it further Wanting to figure out how it got to be like it is Thanks

When I was looking for suitable powders to use in my 30r Blaser, I noticed the similarities of the Reeder 30/405case. So I called him and wanted to know why his velocities were so low, thinking it was from a 15” handgun. His reply was no those were rifle velocities, and when I mentioned the 30r Blaser he had never heard of it? Considering the better performance and already available parent case, basically 9.3x74r case improved. I was struck with the notion that he was simply interested in “his” developments and not better or already available ideas............just my .02 Trapr
