I just finished a 264 Win Mag and know we have some 6.5 fans here....as such, I thought I'd post pictures. It's built on a CZ-24 Mauser 98 action which has been trued and fit with a Timney trigger (~ 1 lb). The barrel is a 4-groove ratchet cut Shilen set to 27". The scope is an old 12x Redfield from the 1960's: I also engraved my monogram on the magazine floorplate: -Lee www.singleactions.com

nice rifle you got there. what's the bullet in the loaded round there? It's a 140 grain Sierra Game King over a full-case of Retumbo. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Thanks. I don't do stocks from scratch, but do work them up from pre-contoured blanks. This laminate one was from Boyds. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Lee: how much Retumbo with the 140 Sierra and how much velocity? 64.0 grains for around 3,200 fps out of a 27 inch barrel. That's max though, so work up incrementally. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Lee, we found H870 gave the best velocity and accuracy in our 264 WM. However, there was no Retumbo at the time so......
These 264's seem to build up pressure fast, so be care guys!

Fermin - I really like H870 too, but switched to Retumbo a few years back. Less temperature sensitive and plenty accurate. And you're right about pressure in the 264....it can jump quick. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Lee what a cool looking rifle, that 27" barrel will make that baby sing. Winchester was out of their mind offering the 264 in the 22" barreled featherweight and should have just stuck to the 26" standard gun. Had they done that the caliber would have been a lot more popular. Just my two cents.

I agree Ron. Chop the barrel back to 22" and of course you're going to have a rifle that doesn't much outpace a 270. Powders have come a long way since the 60's too. With the release of Retumbo, RL 25, Magnum, etc, the 264 can hit the old advertised figures from '59 (assuming you use 26" or more of tube). -Lee www.singleactions.com
