I usually leave the radio on all night on a talk show station, KFI 640.
Well, the other night one of the callers made a statement that was so incredibly stupid that I just could not believe it. Here is what he said.
"We could end all gun violence tomorrow. All we have to do is stop all sales of assault rifles and semi automatic hand guns."
And he kept saying the violence would stop tomorrow. There is so much wrong with that statement that it's just beyond stupid. I guess he thinks that all those bad guys run into a gun shop and purchase a weapon just before they shoot someone.
Wouldn't you just love to have that idiot tied to a chair with a gag over his mouth and be able to speak to him without his stupid mouth getting in the way?
I guess he's never given it much thought about what would happen if those weapons were suddenly banned from the market. How about the price on them suddenly sky rocketing? How about the bad guys now killing just to get their hands on the much more valuable weapons?
It's just hard to believe that people can be so naive. How can someone so completely stupid and clueless manage to get through life? It seems that being incapable of rational thought would certainly limit your life span.

Life is too short to use plastic guns.

Cary even tying him to a chair & muffling his mouth wouldn't do any good. He's convinced guns are evil, not the people using them criminally. His brain (what's left in working order) is made up & no amount of facts will change that. Simply hopeless! Frank

Classic. Totally indicative of why I don't listen to talk radio in specific, or radio programming in general. There is some good stuff, but you have to work hard to sift through the "mark my words" garbage.

What needs to be stopped is the uncontroled breeding of MORONS that live in a fantasy world. That guy needs to be locked in a room with some of the scumbags that are commiting the crimes and see if he can convince them that guns are the problem.

Like brionic says, I run across something equally stupid about every third time I listen to talk radio for more than a minute. The wisdom that comes with advancing years has convinced me that listening to talk radio is deleterious to my tranquility, so I just avoid it now.

Had to chuckle to myself: an acquaintance of mine who is decidedly left wing sent me (and a lot of other folks) a thinly disguised "Guns are BAD" piece that was published in a mainstream snotrag shortly after the Tucson travesty. Much of the "fact" content was pulled directly from the violence policy center website: Glocks were designed for killing and maiming, ineffective for self defense, no one needs a 30 round magazine, you can't hunt with one, etc. I responded to the group at large and pointed out the source of the "facts" and the sizable holes in the argument. No response. Today she sent us all a piece explaining how the pit bull is gentle breed that has gotten bad press, explaining how these dogs have been unfairly demonized. I responded to the group again, pointing out that I'd heard similar language before... and that to equate a breed of dog with evil and carnage was just as dense as trying to equate an inanimate object with carnage... once again, no reply other than to say she hoped "HER" dog wasn't banned. Some people lack the sense required to add 2 and 2. And, yeah... they vote and breed. Her argument does sum it up, though. They love to come up with simplistic solutions that cost them nothing and make them feel superior.

Unfortunately, work requires me to be in close proximity to plenty of these folks. I do my best: I've taken several of them shooting, which changes their perspective somewhat, and tried to remain calm and polite when explaining our side. It doesn't always work, though. Some folks insist on demonizing anyone that disagrees with them.
