I had an XR3-RED grip frame put on my New Vaquero specificaly for the purposes of using a crimson trace lasergrip. This is my bedpost piece. I took it out today for the first chance I have had to fire it since, and the first time I pulled the trigger (On a 255 grain keith over 8.5 grains Unique - not a crazy hot load by any means), the crimson trace lasergrips dumped their batteries into the grip frame and disabled themselves. I'm a bit disappointed.
Solutions I'm comin up with involve drilling and tapping a hole in the grip frame, so I can install a set screw that will maintain pressure against the battery door.
I'm open to other suggestions. Giving them a good throwin away is already on the table.
On the other hand, the Montado Hammer and JG's 18 degree angle and serration of the rear of the front sight REALLY improved the shootability of this thing. I tried out loads of 8.5, 9.0 & 9.5 grains of Unique under some of Kooz' keith bullets. Velocities were centered around 1K fps, and the groups looked as good as you can expect for groups shot at an empty beer box on a Saturday afternoon, and 4" low, which is fixable.

My suggestion involves a pickup truck, a parking lot, and a bunch of life removed from a set of tires. When I was in the militar ythat's how we disposed of old M-16 mags when the armorer said they were fine and refused to feed

My simple recommendation is to NOT learn to depend on any battery powered attachment.. That bedpost gun needs to be an old friend that doesn't need any stimulation other than your trigger finger...

I'm not going to depend on the lasergrip ALONE. In fact, it's pretty useless when not mounted on a gun. (although, still fun to play with). The most important point to consider is: Is it cool to have a "cowboy gun" with a frikkin' LASER? answer: yes. That's really all the motivation I need, I WANT to make it work.
I guess I need to post a pic, since technically this sixgun was my "first custom".

You guys are talking about some ugly stuff. The crimson trace grips actually look ok for their intended use. You can call me all the names you want, but you're getting close to badmouthing my gun... To Nobears comment about "accurate": They held up fine to recoil and had perfect repeatabilty when they were installed on a .44 mag (an inspection of grip frames showed a thicker outer web on the "old" 44 mag vaquero grip frame than is on the new stainless XR3-RED from Gallagher) (As a matter of fact, I shot more precisely with the laser at dusk than those high polish Vaquero sights in the sunshine.) Again, for looks, they won't ever be beautiful, but they aren't ugly. Don't try to tell me that none of you have settled for that before. Especially if they can handle the task at hand. Maybe I'll get home before dark tonight and get a pic.
