I see this thread has been resurrected! I have made a few changes this year, and gotten some 250 XTP's, as well as some pure lead swaged Speer 250 SWC's. Only problem is, I haven't gotten a chance to shoot anything with them.
I have been inspired by Taffin's "Frontier Performance" article in AH a while back, and got the Speer's to shoot great in my P345 auto. Just put 9 of them offhand into about 3" at 20 yds. Do you all think this bullet would expand in a deer, leaving the muzzle around 950?

I've started working up some loads with the Rim Rock 240gn .44 HP SWC/GC cast bullets. Things look very promising. They are what Buffalo Bore uses in their "deer grenades" BB has a pretty good run down of the performance to expect at different velocities. Not bad to take a look at if you're interested: (http://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=232).
Rim Rock also is apparently in the process of getting into production a ".45 LC 260 GR. HP SWC/GC and a .45 LC 225 GR. HP SWC/GC 12 BHN" (from their website).
I'm quite happy with their prices, quality and service so far.
Just more options...Best of both worlds?

to get the most out of cast bullets ya almost have to make them yourself yeah I know its a lot of work but is the only way to know without a doubt that the bullet you use is tailor fit to the gun and application

I haven't found anything better in the .357 magnum than Hornady XTPs. I use both 158 and 180 grains and prefer the latter on deer. It is more accurate in my M27s and is a thumper.
For deer with the .45 Colt and .44 Special, I use Keith style bullets (.45 270 SAA RCBS, .44 Keith from LBT) cast from scrap 22 rimfire lead from my under deck .22 range. These bullets have not failed on heart/lung shots on deer. They expand well and have so far left a good but short blood trail.
